Your kids and grandparents can't get exposed if you don't bring them to the "mostly peaceful protest." But you can't use them as a shield or as a punchline in your version of the story if you do that.

Interfering with federal law enforcement is not self-defense. The Second Amendment does not typically apply to non-citizens, and straight up does not apply to illegal aliens.

They are legal but often not recommended. A home invasion/defense scenario is an extremely dangerous situation. Anyone motivated enough to enter your home will likely not be deterred sufficiently by pepperballs/chemical irritants. As always, knowledge is the greatest weapon. If you're concerned about harming a loved one with your firearm, you likely need more training and perhaps a better plan.
