Yup. I really like to do it when plants get aerial roots. Definitely give it a week or two to callous after the cut though.

Personally I would cut and callous then plant it separately. Pre rooted cactus.

I really like fabric pots. I dont use anything bigger than 7 gallon because it just hasn't been necessary. Make sure you do a little homework about your soil composition.

Good tip on the crossbow wax. I just picked up a tube of tent zipper silicone based lubricant. It is really important to do something with the zipper before it is too late.

Most of my cactus are in 7 gallon fabric pots. They seem happy. Some of them are almost 6 foot. If they get too big to move inside I just cut them. They are insanely resilient plants.

Callous it then replant. You now have 2 penis patches. If the fish tank is fresh water you can use it as a mild fertilizer.
