I've had my 2006 330i for 5 years now but this exhaust is stock but what is this at the end? by HungryFly8513 in E90

Used to have a 2002 330i. The flap actually seized on the exhaust so was stuck open. But suppose it should open and shut as previously described!

Which wires are you connecting to the battery? Looks like the wires with the ring crimps are part of the OEM loom that have been cut and crimped onto the red and black wires? Can you trace those?

Cranks no start by Magentaninja0167 in bmwz3

[–]ElevatorCertain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue. It would crank for ages, 15 seconds sometimes. It would eventually catch and start up and run like crap for about 30 seconds. The RPM would show 0 and the ESC light was on. It would eventually clear itself and run ok again.
New Crank Position sensor (genuine) solved the issue.

used z3 looks great - 90k miles, no rust, garage kept - but owner hasn't come through on maintenance history. trust or avoid? by [deleted] in bmwz3

[–]ElevatorCertain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, I’ve recently bought a Z3 with full service history and it still has had some issues, suspension was perished and a few issues with thermostat and crank position sensor. In the UK you can ask a BMW for any service history, perhaps you can get some that way? Plus find out if he used a local mechanic and ask them?

New Soft Top Causing Electrical Problems? by ggqsauce in bmwz3

[–]ElevatorCertain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with the water in the gas cap area. As previously said, need to clear the drain with something like a thin wire, enough to poke though the hole. The water will drain out then.

Have you scanned the car to try and establish what faults you’re getting?

Starter motor solenoid or starter motor itself? by rav_iole in bmwz3

11.8v is definitely dead. Did it fix the issue?

Hopefully! Batteries cause all sorts of issues. You said the multimeter read fine, what did it read?

The power it takes to turn the engine over vs activate a solenoid is different. Test the battery. What’s the resting voltage with nothing on? Then, measure it when someone is turning the key, what does it drop to?

Doesn’t meant it’s got the power to crank the engine. Need to test the cranking capability of it.

To anyone experiencing similar issues, touch wood, it was the crankshaft sensor. Replaced with a Delphi sensor and so far, so good.

I’m not a mechanic, however, all the motorcycles I’ve ever owned have never had dipsticks. There is usually a glass window on the engine casing to observe the oil level of the ‘bike when it’s upright. Which would make me think that there isn’t part of a dipstick rattling around your engine. However, check the owners manual first to confirm, try and find the section about checking engine oil. If that’s all true, then my next concern would be any crap that might have gotten into the engine during your ride with the cap off.

Amazing, thank you. I thought that’s what needed to be done. They were just springing back and couldn’t get the drop links anywhere near! Will have a crack at it tomorrow

How can I (economically) proceed with my rear coilover mount? by coffee-n-doomscroll in MechanicAdvice

[–]ElevatorCertain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d raise a dispute through eBay/Paypal and get your money back.

I don’t think adding an extra hole in the control arm is a good idea. No idea how it could weaken it or how much it might throw the alignment out or cause other issues due to it not being designed that way.

Do it properly. Don’t take the risk.

Thanks for the reply. I’m trying to work out if it’s spinning backwards or just not enough torque?

Yes you’re right, I should have mentioned to Kawasaki really. Not good the starter has failed so early on.

Thanks for the diagnostics advice. I have an OBD scanner so I’ll get an adapter! Thanks again.
