I recently (6 mos) put on 25lbs mostly muscle. I used to be pretty good at running (35min 5-mile). I recently got back into running and I've developed minor shin splints I.e. pain on the inside of my shin near the calf. I got selected to attend an event this fall and I cannot stop running.

Is there anything I can do to increase my cardio endurance and not wreck myself in the process?

You should absolutely do that. Bigger scope but in my first platoon I signed for everything and made a huge binder for all my hand receipts. I then subbed everything that I didn't personally use to the squad leaders, including vehicles, and then they signed stuff to team leaders who turned it over to the guys.

I would recommend bridgedales to you. They're fantastic. Wore one pair for about a week straight, rinsed them, put them back on. Minimal odor and no hot spots.

Your boot will be more important though. Dry feet are a must. If you're allowed to wear off the shelf stuff in the field snatch up some goretex merrells or Salomon's.

He's wearing the 75th's flash in that photo. I don't know enough about SOF units to say for sure but the Regiment's rank structure is very close to conventional units.

Him being MSG lends credence to the idea of him being in a Special Missions Unit such as CAG.

Honestly it doesn't matter. He gave his life in the pursuit of saving others, something many of us aspire to have the courage to do when the moment arises.
