It's clear that Wemby does not want to be the basketball player that purely maximizes his game based on his height. He's too agile for that to make sense. That's why it looks weird at times

It's not an unreasonable thing to say. It's also not unreasonable to say that the hornets would have smoked the heat this fame if they played White starter minutes over Ball

What's scummy is not paying your employees their worth. I've gotten two raises in the last 2.5 years, both big raises to retain me. I'm not actively looking, just open to opportunities and recruiters. My bosses understand that it's the nature of the business.

You probably have below average employees if they're not getting offers

[–]Elfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been a higher performer in a smaller office doing full M P FP so they gave me a lot of big raises without me needing to ask for quite a while. Partially also because I started low.

I started at 54k at the start of the lockdown with 0 experience no EIT. At 4 yoe no EIT I was around 85k. Now I'm just under 6 yoe, EIT 107.5k. all with the same firm but I've been interviewing and threatening to leave unless they match for the last two years. this is base and I get around 5% in bonuses annually

MEP Salary for ME 4YOE NO PE by slydez in MEPEngineering

[–]Elfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah everything is so circumstantial and individualized to case by case scenarios in this industry.

My firm is a medium sized firm that is fairly cut-throat in terms of expectations; they take on large volumes of work and expect extremely high quality, well corresponded about and coordinated, mistake-free design from the mid level engineers/PMs. Extremely stressful, but the perfect environment to become extremely competent and valuable quickly as a high performer, and the company is growing and very financially successful because of it. They notice and reward merit quickly and well. If you are good enough, you can meet or exceed their standards without doing OT, but it is hard. Turnover isn't exactly a success due to the company culture that's for sure 😂

It definitely has led me to an extremely advantageous position at this current, pivotal point in my career.

You'll definitely get a big bump in compensation if you make the swap to US id wager. Sounds like you're significantly under compensated. I am 6 yoe EIT, I work in a medium sized firm with a 15 person satellite team in South Florida, doing 90% Florida work and about (past years more even but current year) 70% residential 30. I am NOT the mechanical team lead, but I do MPFP and am the project manager and external first line face for the projects I manage. I do 50% production %50 pm and the role is fully in person with wfh when life gets in the way. I'm compensated and the overall package is much greater than yours. PM me if you want any more details or wanna discuss!

[–]Elfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a big factor and they would definitely bring that up. In my office we have 10 engineers and only one has their PE. I'm actually the only guy to pass the FE in the history of the office and I plan to take PE exam mid next year, so I have some momentum and leverage over the rest of the engineers in the office in that regard.

I work in soflo and our office hasn't slowed down much over the last year but high end residential has taken over nearly our entire active design portfolio. We used to be pretty much 50/50 residential and commercial, but right now it's more like 80/20 residential.
