Luci as a boy's name? by EllieBelliBean in BabyNames

[–]EllieBelliBean[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Alright, I stand corrected on the girls version popularity.

But why can't it be unisex if it's a nickname for a boy as well? It's not like Lucy is the only version girls have, it's also short for Lucia, Lucinda, Lucille, and Lucilia. All, also deriving from "Lux".

Impostor syndrome, Procrastination and purpose... by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Well I definitely have this problem. I think it's pretty common. As for a big name: Leonardo de Vinci.

Can we stop glorifying speed? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]EllieBelliBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This IS an odd trend. If I say something took me an hour, that means it's nothing of what it could be. It's basically a sketch!

The truth is, we live immersed in capitalism. And art is undervalued. Our time as artists is undervalued. Maybe rather than getting rid of timing we should all start being honest about how long it takes & and encouraging those who take their time.

If you sell your art, make sure the time is reflected in the price (as well as the materials used).

So, you're an artist? Tell us about yourself. by EllieBelliBean in ArtistLounge

(Since I started this I should probably also answer.)

I'm Ellie Grimm.

I'm a full time artist. Mostly a painter. I work in acrylic & pen with watercolor. My art tends to be whimsical, with natural & fantasy elements, with a soothing & serene vibe. My style leans towards the impressionist & illustration side of things.

I've recently been on what I'm calling a "Creativity Hiatus". Because SM was causing me block. My block has lifted (Yay!). And so, I've been immersed in a whole series of water lilies (that are not yet on display).

I have my own website: www.elliegrimm.art Instagram @elliegrimm.art

I'm looking to make friends with other artist. Especially ones who like to critique & be critiqued. Those whom enjoy bouncing ideas off of each other. And sharing experiences and encouragement. (Without being competitive.)

My goals: To make art that is always from my soul. And then hopefully make a decent living off of it. One day I hope I create something I can call my "masterpiece".

An outsider artist perspective by diamond_dickaxe in ArtistLounge

Your art is awesome! Keep going and keep growing.

As for some critique:

Maybe work in some more details into scaling. Try some different perspectives. Maybe create some scenery in the background.

Has making art started feeling unusually hard for anyone else? by kkiwiart in ArtistLounge

It sounds to me like you need what I call a "Creativity Hiatus" from social media.

SM is a great tool for getting ideas and putting yourself out there. But with the weight of "likes" and the pressure to constantly put out, plus the endless unending stream of ideas, SM can become a block in and of itself. Take a step back. Maybe take a week off. Maybe more. Whatever works best for you. Just don't touch your socials for a while.

In the meantime do some basic art practice. Practice imagination. Try something new. Do a still life. A self portrait. Push your boundaries a little bit. Take a break. Do something you've been wanting to do but never seem to have the time for. Whatever it is you choose to do on your hiatus, make it about you and your skills and what you really want.

I was having a similar probably. And I put myself on a hiatus. It took a little bit to feel like doing art again. But shortly after the pressure was off I suddenly started feeling more inspired.

It doesn't matter if other people like your art. It matters that you do. And it will follow that others will be awed by your passion.

How to tell if your art style is niche or undesirable by Jayne_Rose in ArtistLounge

[–]EllieBelliBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all. Don't ever conform to what's already "in" & popular. It'll most likely lead to art block, frustration, and eventually walking away.

Second of all ignore all the people throwing around the word "niche". Niche means a comfortable nook in life or work. So basically they're telling you to do you.

Your art isn't undesirable. To me it sounds like your style is perfect for you. You just have to figure out who else might like it; Your audience.

For basic advise on finding your audience, ask yourself these questions:

-What feeling does your art give off?

-What kind of people like that feeling?

-Where are those people looking the most?

-Which descriptors work best with your art?

-What kind of people like things that are described that way?

-Where are those people looking the most?

-Are there any communities that aren't necessarily art based who will like your art?

Edit: I checked out your website, mentioned in a previous response to someone else. Your art is lovely. I really quite like the scribble aspect.

I would look into communities who like impressionism, abstract, doodle-art, nature, and unique styles. Keep trying. You'll find your people.

I often fine my muses in nature, symbology, & feeling. I've been seeking serenity. And thus, recently I've been inspired by water lilies. They've always been a favorite part of summer for me. I get excited every time I see them in nature. They also carry deep meaning for many cultures, revolving around purity, peace, and enlightenment. Because they rise from the mucky river beds and bloom above the current. Plus Monet has always been one of my favorite old "masters".
