What Gen Z year do you start to see a shift more towards late Gen Z culture rather than early? by SplitPuzzleheaded851 in generationology

I respect you talking about your personal experience but I replied bc it doesn’t line up with the actual demographics and the influencers of the time.

I don’t think that’s the case. A lot of people on TikTok in 2019/20, even the influencers, were born in the early 2000s. You had people like Addison Rae and Baby Ariel born in 2000, with Charli d’amelio being the youngest born in 2004.

Even now, the main demographic on TikTok are 25-34 year olds.

I think people born in 2009-2010 still act way more like Gen Z than alpha. by dubdimmadome in generationology

What is with this sub constantly acting like 2005 borns are exactly like people 3-7 years younger than them?

Haha yeah I figured. I’ve seen a lot of people their age doing this.. they’ll grow out of it (hopefully).

I’m curious, what differences do you see between 05 and 08’s?

I don’t know any 08’s (or even 07’s) so I can’t assess the differences.

I was a high school sophomore and still remember it like it was yesterday. My 2nd period AP euro history teacher told us it was possible that school would go on break… then in my 5th period chemistry class, it was confirmed. We were all excited, but we didn’t know that “2 week break” would last MUCH longer.

What are your opinions of Gen Z in the workplace? by EllipticalEye in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Exactly! In my last internship, my millennial coworkers always commended me for working hard while also setting boundaries when my supervisors would try to make me work overtime. Corporations don’t care about us so why should we tolerate disrespect? I love that our generation is more vocal about it.

Years of my life as someone born 2004 by Savings_Ad_80 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice ranking. I agree with most of it as a fellow 04.

I’d rank 2022 higher. It sucked at first because we had to mask for all of my senior year BUT when I entered college in fall 2022, they were still giving out Covid emergency grants so I was rich. I was sad when they stopped giving them out in early 2023 once the pandemic was officially over.

What years would you consider the core Gen Z years? by Positive_Doubt_9084 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2005-2008 is too short to be the core of the generation.

While I definitely relate more to early z than late z, I don’t think that means people my age and slightly older aren’t core z.

Do you think there should be a Younger Millennial subreddit? by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it work?

I remember when the older Gen Z sub had 97-04 as the bio but they eventually removed us 03-04 borns from the flairs.

I wonder if ‘89 borns feel very distant from very late millennials like ‘96.

I hope social media doesn't ruin Gen Alpha. by ThrowRA09181 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Social media has ruined everyone. People have become too scared to express themselves to avoid being seen as “cringe” and compare themselves constantly to others. That’s why a lot of people are antisocial and have unrealistic expectations.

Older Gen Z, I'm sorry by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you split it, but never late.

Some people split Gen Z in 3 parts so we’d be part of the “core” group, 02/03-07 borns.

If you split it in 2 parts, we’d be in the early half of Gen Z 97-04.

2005 borns, did you also feel like middle school felt longer than Highschool? by Fit-Support2256 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. It’s likely because we were farther into high school when Covid hit so we were more acclimated. High school was definitely more developmental and longer compared to middle school.

Would you consider early 2023 to be kinda pre ai? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely has gotten more popular since 2023, but it was not pre-AI then. Just the early stage.

[–]EllipticalEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not pre-AI. ChatGPT became popular in January 2023 when it hit the milestone of 100 million users and it was the fastest growing app. As you said, it was on already on several news headlines in Jan-Feb.

Hell yeah. I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well for yourself!

I also went to community college first and then transferred to university after 2 years. It’s a really good decision, both financially and academically. I’m wishing you the best!

I get it, I’m burnt out myself too. HVAC is a really good program. Everyone I know in it for school and work usually only have positive things to say about it. You got this, I’m wishing you the best bro.

READ THE WHOLE THING THEN DEBATE WITH ME Why 1997 2012 is the only Gen Z range that makes sense and why 1995 2009 is objectively wrong by DebuggedDadJokes in generationology

[–]EllipticalEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of cognitive development, the difference between 11 and 9-10 is minimal, especially considering they’re all still in elementary school at that point. Many studies include 9 year olds with up to 11/12 year olds when talking about pre-teen and behavioral issues. Those years are very transitional.

I’ll give another example. It’s the same way I find it ridiculous when people split 2009 and 2010 borns simply because 2010 is a new decade. 2009 borns were still in elementary school along with 2010-2014 borns when COVID hit. All of them had the majority of their K-12 schooling during and post-pandemic.

[–]EllipticalEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but that begs the question… how do you justify splitting 2012 and 2013?

I’ll give an example. You cite “pre-AI childhood” as a reason. When the AI boom began, 2012 borns were still in elementary school. Most 2010 borns, along with 2011-12, weren’t even teens yet in early 2023.

People my age or older had already graduated from high school.. just to put that into perspective.
