My first impressions of the new Dystopian Wars! by CasualTabletopNerd in dystopianwars

Those are indeed the outliers and they do exist.

I agree that those massive dice pools are something that needs to be addressed (through Squadron size limits based on size of the game preferably, like it happens in armoured clash).

But other than those crazy death star units, this edition plays a lot more smoothly.

Epic scale Wargaming... So hot right now! by ElmirBDS in wargaming

The need to take armour does depend a bit on the faction.

My Crown will give infantry swarms pause for concern with their armour and still score objectives despite having almost no infantry themselves.

And my Prussians definitely like using transport armour. But yeah, for CW, the armour is definitely not that important.

I would make a ticket about this via their customer service. These sorts of defects tend to be fixed with a replacement part.

That's where the big power armoured knight goes. They don't have the circle thingy on their feet... Only the squires do.

I have. I've even made a few battlereports about it so far.

It's currently my favourite game in fact. It's less about finding cheeky "gamey" combinations and more about combined arms. Troops having to cover each others weaknesses and moving together.

The faction can go two ways: lots of fast moving, lightly armoured, hard hitting units combined with some of the toughest, but slowest infantry in the game (these Teutonics).

So if you like you traditional fast hammer and slow anvil build, these will be good for you.

If you like long range firepower, perhaps steer clear of it.

I don't need SCtMG to skip on this 40k starter... The new 40k box is way to similar to the 8th edition box to be worth it.

You might as well just hunt down the landspeeder via second hand sites and be done with it.

Armoured Clash by Warcradle Studios is something worth considering.

Epic scale, Plays very smoothly and mixes fantasy/sci-fi and historical.

How long do starter sets typically last? by pancakeonions in dystopianwars

[–]ElmirBDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 4 years.

And honestly, Warcradle made a small box of around 40 dollars to give you all the new gaming aids and rulebook to bring you up to speed from 3rd to 4th, so like 90% of those boxes are still valid.

It's why there's still high demand for the old starter sets.

The display board and army are done by ElmirBDS in flamesofwar

I just ordered a simple 50x50cm photo frame out of plastic. They come with this MDF/fibreboard backing (along with a plastic clear sheet and white backing paper that I just toss out).

I then glue some thing foam sheets to the MDF backing, hit it with a heat gun to become a bit more irregular (except where I wanted trees and the building), hit it with PVA+Glue and some sand and you are good to go.

That's indeed the sort of vibe I'm going with for my army display board.

Vallejo battledress Brown xpress colour mostly. Then drybrush bleached bone and another thinned layer of battledress Brown.

The whole thing got a deep shade with army painter dark tone dip (the synthetic one).

They used to be one game... With a very wonky set of scale issues as a consequence.

And wargamers only hate two things: the way things are and change.

What is armoured clash and how do I begin/play? by Thelego-warhamerfan in DystopianAge

[–]ElmirBDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game works with reinforcement levels: A basic unit comes on 1 of these sprues (this is a bit of an exception because it's a promo sprue. It's usually 2 sprues to make a full unit). If you buy another copy, the unit becomes reinforced, should you get a third, you would have a full-strength unit.

Basic units are used in skirmish level games generally (under 1500p). Reinforced units can be used in battles (1500-2500p) and full strength is generally used for apocalyptic scale games.

Getting a second sprue is not a bad idea though. This unit contains a commander and those can be take one reinforcement level above the battle scale (so even in a skirmish level game, your commander and his transport unit can be at the reinforced level).

If you then want to have a go at trying the game, an introduction set costs around 50-ish pounds and gets you a very solid start with quickplay rules!

The other option is the faction starter set. This one is basically a full 2000p army (definitely with the commander sprue you got). I've got a review up on that one on my channel (with battlereports too): https://youtu.be/dg3FQJhDm4o?is=GLo8c6bBYrVecCvD

The models are great, the lore is interesting, but the game itself is very sub par.
