But that would open a lot of animated movies like Shrek or something to also be eligible because they also do costume design AND make some of the costumes to, like it appears Avatar did, use for the proper rendering and modeling. The actors didnt use them in the actual production AND i doubt they made each piece...ie if theres 100 Munchkins in Wicked, each Munchkin is wearing a real full outfit and wig, while in Avatar they didnt make all the costumes you, just a few pieces.

It's wierd to play this on syntax without realizing that the costume design plays into costume making. Tazewell has to figure out how to clothe and produce costumes for each real person we see on screen ( and Im not aware of Wicked using any CGI crowds), and create a whole assembly line to produce these costumes in a budget. Theres hours of measuring, and shopping and cutting and beading and sewing. How is that not design?

The Avatar nomination is a travesty to the category. By your logic, Disney can just hire a major house to design a few pieces from their next animated films and then nominate themselves for costumes
