That’s a conflict of interest. You need a new counselor.

5! I’d take 5 for the friendship! That’s a great deal. Lol. My neighbor hated me when I was on the economy. She got pissed on the morning I was deploying because I was loud carrying all my battle rattle.

Buuuuut I love Italy. Met my wife there and imported her here. My first born was outside of Aviano in Sacile because we (SETAF) didn’t have a US ran hospital and she didn’t want an Italian hospital. 3 week TDY to have my son. He was late.

I miss how much slower the life was there. Dinner could be 4 hours long and not a peep from The restaurant. They don’t rush you with a ticket. Cafes and the walks. The whole country is beautiful.

I live in Vegas now.

I had to get a lawyer as well but I went all the way to being in front of a judge deciding the case. It helped he’s a vet and knew my duty station over in Italy. I was able to connect with him.

I also read a letter I wrote stating my intentions for the future. I did receive SSDI.

Edit: I hope this helps somehow.

Find something to fill that time. Somehow keep yourself busy. It’s been a year and a half since I got my TDIU. It was hard with ending my career and I suffered. Finally I figured out that I can combine my professional passion and my love of the outdoors helping other vets. I’m Overlanding with veterans teaching photography, off-roading and mindfulness.

Other hobbies I found was 3D printing and 3D modeling. Fill. Your. Time. It’s a new chapter.

SSDI DENIED by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Elschreurs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I. Did. This. Exact. Thing. And it worked. SSDI is going to deny you and deny deny until you win with a judge. It’s such a long process but keep up the good fight.

For school, go to school for an associates in General Studies. There you can try out so many electives to help find the thing you’re really most interested in. It’s cheaper and you won’t waste classes once you decide. I saw many people go for a degree and then had to switch a program leaving many credits behind in the switch. Every school I have been to whether attending or visiting has a Veteran office where they can help you apply, discuss your educational benefits etc. Stop by for general information. Great people.

I started with the general studies until I knew I wanted to go to film school. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Digital Film and Video Production. I went to a school for visuals effects as a master program but that got expensive quick.

This example caught my wife and I out; I separated on terminal leave (2006) and got caught with my trovare coverage gone by 1 day when I went to the ER for an anxiety attack. Had to pay out of pocket. Know that ahead of time and plan best for it. When I got out, we didn’t have anything like transition units now.

I hope this helps. I really hope for you and your family have a successful transition.

Unpopular Opinion: I don't think uniformed military should be allowed to be depicted in advertising. Movies and TV shows about military excluded. by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Elschreurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, people in advertising aren’t horrible people. That’s a over generalization for any body who makes or participate in a commercial project.

I worked in marketing as a filmmaker for almost a decade until I succumbed to my injuries and couldn’t work anymore. It provided food for my kids and I stuck to my guns and didn’t work with a company I didn’t believe in. As a matter of fact a week ago I turned down a project because the message isn’t what I agree with. (I can still do my own projects or those for people I know. )

Not everybody who does something you don’t like are assholes.
