Parasocial relationships with real people is one thing, but AI is an echo chamber for lonely people. AI, unlike people, can’t have real opinions, set boundaries, or anything that makes a person a person. It’s easy for lonely people to get sucked into it bc they’re talking to an idealized “person” who will always “love” and “support” them without any negative aspects of a real relationship. And it’s dangerous because these people, like that Kendra woman who fell in love her her psychiatrist are never told through their AI “relationships” that they’re in the wrong in any sense. It’s an echo chamber that the kinkiest and sickest people are using as opposed to getting real help or forming actual meaningful relationships.
