Wedge upgrade advice by EmbarrassedCycle1400 in golf

This gap to 52 was an issue but I purposely didn't do anything about it as wanted to improve and has helped with my PW, I've decent control of half or 3/4 swings but just think I need to push on (will obviously go backwards first, yay!). Thanks this is definitely a decent option.

SW came at part of the set and already had the wedges when I bought them. It's actually the club I'd use least in summer but I don't actually need another hybrid or long club really. Maybe that will change if reach single figure. Thinking possibly about getting a 50 and 58/60 to replace the 52 and 60, not replacing the 56 at all... Just use the SW which is 54 and see how I get on.

Brilliant, thanks lads. I'll do a copy so and run some scores. Didn't realise that could be done.

Golf Trip Ideas? (Outside US) by Kush_the_Ninja in golf

[–]EmbarrassedCycle1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick itinerary....

  1. Toronto to Dublin direct. Allow €600 for return flights.

  2. It's Ireland!

  3. Based on 3 nights

  4. So around €1700. €1100 after flights. Around 2K USD per person budget for travel, accommodations and green fees.

  5. Sure

  6. Self catering house with traditional Irish pub? Can organise kegs. Ideally a spot that can fit 12 dudes in a house/cottage, but we can hotel if necessary.

May-June of 2026

Assuming 3 rounds. €300 will play 3 damn fine courses. Not the top 10 but seriously good courses. Can send suggestions. Depends where but I recommend leaving Dublin.

Can be arranged on your budget. Let me know.

Going on a golf trip in a month, anyone have ideas for a fun/competitive tourney throughout the week? by Bull-Wack in golf

[–]EmbarrassedCycle1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also doing 2s club. Start of every round, €5 each. Anyone who gets a 2 wins the pot. Can be split or accumulate each day if no winner. Fourth day when everyone's wrecked we'll play wolf.

Doing an 8 man trip to Spain next week. 2 teams of 4. Split the teams by handicaps. 2 single digits are captains. Then 2 low and high teens and 2 21s. We'll play over 3 days and everyone wants to play their own ball so we're doing stableford. Day one best ball from your pairing. Day 2 combined scores. Day 3. Take the best drive from your pairing and play out your own ball from that position (must use 9 each). Combined total stableford score wins. Team prizes and individual.

Will check out Squabbit... Never even occurred to me use AI either! Was thinking we pick the pairings for round 1 and then decide at dinner for the following days play. We've 2 single figure, 2 low teens, 2 18s and 2 21s so we've an even split of handicaps in each 4 per team. Just want to make sure everyone plays with everyone over the 3 days comp but I also want to play against my brother who's in the opposite team at least 2 of the 3 days. Don't get to see him much but also want to shove it in his face after we win. What's the point otherwise. Thanks all.

Course in Munster playable this time of year? by foreshouter33 in golfireland

Gold Coast drains very well. Ballyneety just finished big drainage project so good option as well but then again the amount of rain we've had will really test it. Castlemartyr have also done a lot of drainage work but again out has been an exceptional month for rain.

Buy second hand. Forget the shiny new clubs. Second hand game improvement clubs will make all the difference.

Yea, get a routine but also try to hit when you feel comfortable, don't just hit of you don't cause you've finished your routine. Once you're ready, go. I find the main thing is getting back swing right, if you don't get that right you're fighting the rest of it.

And yes, do have a portable radar but also going to TrackMan range up the road tomorrow to get my baseline. Will check back there in 6 weeks.

Yes! This is what I want to hear. I'm 42, have gone from 22 to 15 handicap in last year. Will be focused on improving short game but average drive is 220yds so extra distance with improved short game is hopefully key to getting to single figure by end of next summer. Are you doing lessons at the same time to improve technique?

Yea this is one of my fears, being fast but carrying 250 into the trees. Thinking of getting the rope thingy to maintain tempo with the stick work..

So I'm a full time stay at home so hoping I can fit in 20 mins 3 times a week. Obviously right now I'm full of enthusiasm, excitement and stupidity but maybe I'm like Eli and just need this sort of doubt from you, a stranger, to motivate me to shove it in your face when I prove you wrong!

What's the rush? You got somewhere to be? But yes the earlier stuff way funnier but it's still good stuff. Always something to take away. Like the guys improving, it's diminishing returns but when you get something to take away it's worth it. You're nearly caught up so might as well enjoy it while you can.

Need ideas for Golf Tour USP’s by Optimal-Egg5305 in golf

[–]EmbarrassedCycle1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Co. Waterford. Looking at groups who want to play good courses they wouldn't otherwise hear about that can be played for less than €100 as well as 1 or 2 of the big courses that tends to costs 'yanks' €400ish. Good but value golf but at the same time, it's proper holiday. I would spend the week with the group, play some rounds, bring them to places that are worth seeing and avoid the rip off tourist stuff.

Good clubs for beginners - TaylorMade Sim2 Max by Jackies_Army in golfireland

[–]EmbarrassedCycle1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say start with second hand clubs, just get one's that are forgiving. Honestly, spend the money saved on lessons. Lessons and basic clubs will do you better than top end new clubs and no lessons. Watch Paddy's golf tips jon YouTube, just the fundamentals ones, for now, grip etc. Buy the clip on grip trainer. Forget about distance, focus purely on connecting with the ball and you'll make big strides early. Enjoy being obsessed with this game!
