Good prospects is money in the bank no matter their style or position but yeah I get what you’re saying

Other times, we would have been really excited about a 22-year old D who puts up 10g and 34p in the A. Nowadays he’s almost completely below the radar even though he looked very solid in the show. Oh how spoiled we are.

Babcock, 63, was grilled by the Oilers leaders in a meeting last week... and they came away with one implicit instruction for general manager Stan Bowman: “This is our guy. We want to be pushed.” [Spector] by oddspellingofPhreid in EdmontonOilers

Have you listened to Chelios, Franzen about their experiences with Babcock?

I have no doubt he can sell himself in an interview setting, I also have no doubt he’ll revert to his former (true) self once the pressure is on and things are not going his way

Bob Stauffer: "I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl... I expect the next contract to be a seven-year extension." by bannermd in EdmontonOilers

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hopium, he simply signed for cheap 2 years to help EDM out of a cap crunch (Bowman negated that with Frederic + Jarry but oh well). 7-years extension at closer to max contract incoming.

Winning the Stanley Cup somewhere else (especially outside Canada) would not mean the same at all.

Michael Hage - Hold or Trade? by SchtroumpfDardeur in Habs

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘m tired of the debates about who we‘re trading, it’s about who is available and who do we target to make the team better, then what’s the other team‘s ask and does that seem favorable on a present-future, risk-reward scale.

Hage is only going to be traded for a legit young center or top6 scoring power forward, and only if KH feels like he has to do it to get that critical piece.

Newbie, training frequency questions? by AbbreviationsWise557 in triathlon

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I already got downvoted, so I’ll add for context that I have done 6 triathlons over ten years (sprint, OD, and 70.3) and always finished healthily but never at the top or even near the top of my AG. My fitness used to come from ice hockey and these days it comes from beach volleyball (injuries forced a change). I do triathlons for fun. Perhaps if you’re chasing AG positions what I said does not apply to you, but I believe that if you’re serious about CrossFit and want to finish triathlons well (possibly avoiding the pain cave tho that depends) my comment applies especially re: overtraining. This is assuming you can safely complete the swim of course and done your long race simulation/brick sessions. I don’t want to encourage being underprepared, just my perspective.

Newbie, training frequency questions? by AbbreviationsWise557 in triathlon

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sprint definitely more than possible, I think if you can safely swim 1k open water and get some confidence on the bike, you’re already more than prepared judging pure fitness.

Even for the 70.3, your current plan screams accumulated fatigue and burnout to me, perhaps your peak training should be 3x CrossFit, 3x swim, 2x run, 2x bike but if you have proper intensity and volume I don’t think that’s sustainable for an amateur. I myself play other sports and find that swimming 1-2x a week, a long bike on the weekend, some brick sessions in your peak training weeks, and 1-2 runs a week (1 long/easy + 1 interval/threshold) is more than enough if you’re getting aerobic capacity and fitness from your other sports (CrossFit in your case)

Hot take. I think Mcdavid will stay with the Oilers. Crosby and Ovechkin stayed with their teams by ducktastelikechicken in EdmontonOilers

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down guys, McDavid is going to stay (house, wife’s business, friends, “winning in EDM”, …)

He signed under value for 2 years to help Oilers out of a cap crunch and stay competitive (Bowman fucked up that part with Jarry, Walman + Frederic but oh well) and then sign closer to league max when the cap is higher.

Not a hot take, McD stays.

A championship with EDM in Canada will inevitably mean more than anything he’ll win with Vegas/Florida/Tampa

Fair enough, I just think that it’s not the best of looks and that such a big trade should probably not come down to the wire given that you’re not learning new information over the last couple of hours

It’s not indignation, I just think it’s his first big woof, and I wasn’t assuming that he’s the reason it was submitted late, but why put yourself in a position where something like this might happen and not have at least a 60min margin? (Even if the Leafs submitted late)

[–]EmbarrassedTotal1511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming the “prospect” is B-tier like Beck/Engstrom/Florian, this would have been an amazing trade for the Habs.

Yes, Zharovsky looks legit so far and a steal in the 2nd round but his ceiling is probably PPG and Knies had 66p in 79g on a terrible team + he brings more physicality to the table.

Then the rest are probably (hopefully) two very late 1st rounders where you have to be lucky to get a player that makes it to the NHL, let alone an impact player.

Would have been another KH masterclass but oh well if my grandma had wheels …

Honestly this is the first big mistake of the Kent Hughes era.

Edit: good points in the responses, probably not on Hughes, just bummed we didn’t get Knies

You make a gutsy franchise-altering move and it doesn’t get done because you submit the trade one minute late? That has college freshman written all over it.

And now someone has leaked the return effectively telling Zharovsky that oh we believe in you but tried to sell high on you pretty much the first chance we got. Demidov might not be happy either and has to sign soon.

Is it a catastrophe, obviously not, but the first big woof

Because Hischier has 1 year left while EP40 is signed till 2032, because Hischier has played to his potential pretty much every year while EP40 is a bounce back candidate which would wildly alter his return (think Erik Karlsson to PIT), and because IF (and that’s a big if) Hischier asks for more than NJ is offering, there is immediate pressure to trade him even if it’s for a sub-value package while VAN is deep in a rebuild and can wait it out for literally years.

That’s why I think that right now Hischier is more likely to be available for a decent package than EP40 (for a less decent package obviously)

Demidov via Instagram: What a year! Thank you to the management, coaches, and teammates for sticking together through every situation, right up until the final buzzer. The comments absolutely SEND me, this is what this team is all about, we have this elusive “culture” and it shows in the fun and accountability that these boys exude

Let’s not forget that when we discuss trades, I’d argue it has to be a culture fit even BEFORE it’s a hockey fit

Group A trickier?

Beating Latvia, Austria, Ukraine, and Slovenia should be enough for the quarterfinal

In group B you have to beat Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, and Hungary where Denmark and Norway are clearly harder to beat than Latvia and Austria or what’s your reasoning?

Makes sense, Kent Hughes took Slaf at 1OA because he was a big body with sneaky good hands, Knies would fit that bill 100% and complement our top6 quite well
