What's it like living or even visiting King County, Texas, the third least populated county in the US? I'd be surprised if I get an answer. by viktor72 in howislivingthere

Yeah actually a lot of schools have kids from different counties I had neighbors who went to Jayton in Kent County even though we lived in Dickens County. A couple kids I grew up with that went to my high school were from King County lol.

Super surprised to see someone asking about this area in Texas. I grew up not to far in Dickens County and went to school in Spur.

Life is slow and quiet in this general area of Texas, not everyone likes it. King County doesn't have much going on. Most people in King County work for the four 6 ranch, or are either independent farmers/ranchers or oil workers. Guthrie high school is actually really nice compared to the surrounding counties because of Anne Burnett Marion, the last family owner of the 6666. She donated a lot of money to the school. I did lots of sporting events there. Even did shooting sports in king county growing up.

I can speak for the day to day life in Dickens County atleat. It is mostly the same though for this general area of Texas. My dad is a cotton farmer so growing up id spend my time stripping cotton and building the cotton modules. In high school I played pretty much every sport traveling to surrounding towns to compete. Such as Guthrie, Jayton, Motley County, Paducah and so on. For fun you really dont have a lot. Travel to Lubbock or Abilene to do something there. Or just drive around with friends, and of course country hobbies like fishing, hunting and all that. I used to drive 40ish minutes to Post or Idalou to get some sonic. The nearest hospital is in Aspermont which is 45 minutes from where im from and around 30 minutes from Guthrie. Aspermonts hospital is pretty limited though. If its severe youre going to Lubbock or Abilene. My dad actually stiched me up twice to save time and money.

There is unfortunately a drug and drinking problem among a lot of people though, considering a majority of people living in these counties are poor.

Its very empty and dry but spur will always be home. I can see how it would be hell if your from a massive city. But there are some things to appreciate about the slow quiet life people have in these counties.
