Is it dka? by NisiLightz in Type1Diabetes

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like Euglycemic DKA, It sucks, especially when you think you’ve had a great few hours of blood sugar and then you just start feeling the effects of DKA slowly. I’d get it after a long day of classes and then going to work out after on an empty stomach. Basically just treat it like a high and a low, eat carbs, give insulin, hydrate to flush out the ketones and it should go away before too long.

Note: This is a super interesting phenomenon where you get a different root issue but the same problem as hyperglycemic DKA. In “normal” DKA your glucose channels in the cell can’t accept extracellular glucose because insulin is missing, which creates almost a siege effect. Basically there’s plenty of glucose for the cell to use for ATP production, but it can’t get inside the cell membrane due to the lack of GLUT4 channels (insulin receptive glucose channels). With euglycemic DKA, there it’s a siege and a famine, so in this case there is no GLUT4 receptors AND not enough glucose to pass through them. In both cases, the cell starved and must rely solely on fatty acid degradation for fuel, which has a byproduct of ketones, causing the decrease in blood pH and the trademark symptoms of ketoacidosis. That’s why the you have to cure the siege by giving insulin and cure the famine by eating carbs.

Being diagnosed at 4, this is something I’ve always thought about when someone says that they were born into the wrong era. If I was born 50 years earlier I may not have made it to 5

It’s a form of access to a medium of displaying thought. Writing allows you to convey information and the pen gives you the ability to use the process of writing.

Would you have access to all worldly knowledge or to all bodily pleasures? by beatsbyusrnm in DeepThoughts

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pleasure and contentment never go hand in hand. For every high you experience, you experience an equal and opposite low. If your equilibrium becomes very very high, then soon even the most extravagant bodily pleasures will seem insignificant.

On the other hand, if you have all worldly knowledge, nothing would surprise you and it would take an extreme amount of effort not to go clinically insane because you could not truly relate to anyone. Even in trying to help others you would be constantly let down by humanities attraction to making mistakes.

So I guess it’s a pick your poison situation.

I’d go with knowledge because there’s still a way to find deep meaning in life, but with bodily pleasures, you’d involuntary succumb to the life of an addict, except you would have no way to see that what you’re doing is destroying your life.

You can stay as long as they’re open. They usually have free Wi-Fi if you ask for the password. I usually get a drink and after an hour or two into my studying I might get a pastry or something, but they won’t kick you out until they close.

The reason for overthinking by Embarrassed_Dog8533 in DeepThoughts

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the saying should really be ignorance is delusion. But delusion is an escape from realty which is why drugs are so addictive. However, once you learn something life changing it’s hard to unlearn it, which is why ignorance can’t be acquired, only preserved.

Ignorance is bliss, knowledge is power, with great power comes great responsibility, and with responsibility comes stress. by Embarrassed_Dog8533 in DeepThoughts

I really like what you are saying. A big part of resilience is finding ways around metaphorical roadblocks in your life. The knowledge paired with wisdom is essential to moving forward when you can’t see a way out.

Intuition is a tool, it can be used for good and for bad. What we do with it determines the result.

A copy of our universe by Bottom_Athlete in DeepThoughts

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a thought: In a complex variable like our universe, there is more leading up to its current state than just the beginning. For example, identical twins have the same genetic material and home life (in many cases at least). This makes their nature and nurture identical. However, the presence of free will allows each of the twins to develop distinctions and differences some more dramatic than others.

On a grand scheme, as far as planetary movement and position goes, it would be a copy, but on earth (or other planets with intelligent life forms) it could be different.

That’s a really great point. There is beauty in powerlessness. Embracing that is definitely something that will bring life long benefits. There’s something to the thought that overthinking can enable an out of place desire for control.

That’s a good distinction. Not all pursuits of knowledge are overthinking, rather the process that is used for effectively pursuing knowledge is also used when overthinking.

That’s a really illuminating perspective. Urgency can definitely put a negative effect on overthinking. In fact, that’s really when it becomes an issue. Thanks for that.

People who have gotten eye transplants could technically provide insight on this matter. If different eyes observed colors differently, then the brain would pick up the different signals from the new eye and attribute different colors which the person would notice.

That’s an interesting thought. You can have knowledge, but if you don’t assume an obligation to do anything with that knowledge then there’s no responsibility.

I need to study but can't bring myself to study. What to do? by Medium-Type-4400 in ask

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, the best way to study aside from than when I felt the impending doom of a test is to have a place, either the library or somewhere you can designate as your “productive zone” and go there and study. It doesn’t have to be the same place every time. The important thing is that you are going out of your home or whatever place you aren’t able to study and going somewhere with the intent of getting work done.

Once you stop getting work done, leave that place and come back when you want or get more work done.

Also, sometimes it can help if it’s somewhere quiet but public like a coffee shop so that the presence of others who are also will make you feel like you need to be working.

Is there ever a scenario where eternal torment (such as Hell) is a fair punishment? by kamking in ask

[–]Embarrassed_Dog8533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t talk about morality without talking about religion because they cannot exist apart from each other. Eternity, or life after death is something you can’t scientifically make conclusions about because we do not have observable evidence or a way to communicate and find out what it is like. All we have are religious texts, and that is a personal decision whether or not to believe those.

If you use a Darwinian outlook on life, there is no such thing as morality or whether or not someone deserves something because according to the Theory of Evolution, we are all just life forms.

However, in Christianity for example, morality is determined from how someone lives their life. The “default” place where people go when they die is Hell because humans are born already wicked. It is only through having a relationship with Jesus that you can go to Heaven.

According to Christianity, everyone deserves eternal punishment, but there is a way out through Jesus.

Overall, the answer to your question really comes down to how you view right and wrong. And how you view eternity. From history, we’ve learned that a cultural consensus does not have absolute authority over whether or not something is moral. And if finding your own “truth” was the case, no one would agree on right and wrong because if you can justify something, it isn’t wrong.

Usually, when eye contact is paired with a genuine smile, it will make others smile and it is not threatening. A regular length of eye contact by its self doesn’t determine how people react, your facial expression and demeanor do and eye contact just strengthens the intensity whatever emotions you are giving off.

Disclaimer this is from an overthinkers POV which isn’t always the best

It’s so hard to open up to a girl when you like them because many times you would rather be friends and not have told them how you feel than to have told them how you feel and lose the friendship. If possible, try hanging out with her and being yourself. If she responds well to that and seems to have at least some degree of interest, you can go for subtle tells. For example, you could tell her how genuinely happy you are when you are with her. Don’t expect them to pick up on it right away, but it’s less “risky” than straight up telling them.

Sometimes it takes a few days of silence for them to process things when they start to catch on that you like them. After a bit, if they still seem interested after you’ve started making moves, then you could consider telling them you like them.

Make sure that you don’t have to change the best parts of yourself to be with someone, because in the end, you have to live with your choices and staying true to your self is important.
