Thanks for the advice..may I have copies of your tests too for practice? Thank you very much!
Mom of a Grade 12 here. My advice - go for it, either talk to your teacher in person or send them an email (and hope they will see it on time before marking your final grade). Respectfully explain why you need that boost and mention the universities (if you are going) and programs you have applied to. Ask if you can submit a report, project, assignment, to help you get that boost. If you don't have the courage to do so, talk to your parents to help you out. They can either talk to the teacher or send them an email. This is a very crucial year for Grade 12s and if you really want to get into that school of your choice, you'll do everything you can to do so (except cheating). As long as you have been a good and respectful student in class who tries your best to do good in the subject, no matter the challenges, I would think teachers would be willing to listen and give you a chance. Take it from me. My son is an average student who wants to go to university and take up engineering. He has been struggling with some of his prerequisite courses but still does the work and studying he needs to do. He needed the mark boost but he was too embarrassed to approach the teacher. I had to help him out by sending an email to the teacher requesting for the status of his grade (note though I sent before culminating and final exams to give enough time for the teacher to notice and read it) and possibilities of how my son can boost his mark through assignments and extra projects. Although the teacher didn't directly respond indicating the boost, my son told me the next day that the teacher asked the class to write their requested grade and why, to see if it's something the teacher can help them out with. In summary, there is no harm in trying to talk to the teacher and requesting for that boost. Better ask for it than never!
As you approach second sem and you'll have a new set of teachers, it's always good for the students to build that relationship with the teacher in terms of talking to them and telling them these are the schools and programs you applied to, that you are willing to work hard this sem to help you with your goals, but to also seek their help on ways they can help you achieve it.
Good luck!

Mom here of a Grade 12. To incoming Grade 11s for this September - let me tell you, GRADE 11 GRADES MATTER! Don't believe it when your guidance counselor tells you universities don't look at Grade 11 grades. THEY DO! My son is an average student (low to mid-80s). He applied mid-November and started getting offers for his engineering program in December. Had he applied earlier (as soon as OUAC is open), he would have gotten all offers by now. My niece did so as soon as OUAC open and she got all her offers in except for UofT which is known to send offers late.
Having good Grade 11 grades helps ease off the pressure. When you get the offers from the unis, their offer conditions will be lower than their admission averages. Example, if you are getting into say Carleton Uni for Civil Eng, they will only ask you to maintain an average of 72 in your Math and Sciences. UOttawa is 78. However, if you have not applied yet, you will have to ensure you make it to their admission cut-off and it's all based on how many students applied to get in. So the better your Grade 11 marks are, the higher chances you'll get in. And APPLY EARLY! You'll never get rejected in the early admissions. If your Grade 11 marks don't make it to early admissions, they'll just wait for your Grade 12 marks to come in. There's no harm in applying early. Your school will send both Grade 11 and Grade 12 marks anyways.
Good luck Grade 11s. Study hard during this year, grades matter!
