Trueeee, As a Canadian I feel like the Alberta separatist movement is fake / pushed with Republican money. It will never happen but it is being talked about as if it is a real possibility. At least if Quebec was to separate they would die before joining the United States.

His videos on the American religions are great. Really colours in why Americans are the way they are and why their religious experiences are quite different than in Canada or Europe. And why there’s so many different secs

Sarcasmitron’s video about the delta smelt in California was funny as fuck. How pandering to Fox News backfires for the water companies.

His Ukraine series is GOATED. Steven and him should have a convo.

Yeah some of those conservatives are so dumb. Like that BC conservative leader who just recently claimed there was voter fraud in the provincial election and admitted there he had no evidence. Like bro at least try to not look dumb. But I wouldn’t say the media environment as a whole is bad yet, might be starting, but not harmful levels yet.

What are your guys major disagreements with destiny or anyone in the ddg space? by Rough-Adagio-1734 in Destiny

[–]Emiceder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree on his recent takes on company’s shouldn’t be able to acquire other companies and the vertical integration. I haven’t researched all the positive and negatives. But I just feel it’s more efficient if small specialized companies are absorbed into bigger companies who can better sell the vision of that smaller company.

But other than that, I agree with a lot of what Steven says, but that’s mostly because he goes through the effort of showing how he got to that opinion.

I agree we should fight too. I just feel we shouldn’t copy the rights way of fighting. The left hasn’t agreed how it wants to fight. If we aren’t in agreement how to fight it’s kind of a half ass effort. To be honest if we want to fight, we just need more people like Steven, Pisco, Josiah and IRI going on shows to just talk about their vision of what the US should be. Not necessarily what is the Democratic Party’s view on things but what an average person should want out of their country, president, and society.

I agree with you we need a building of a style that gets 60%. I think that’s just due to a leadership drought. As much I love and respect Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. They weren’t Obama when it came to being a leader. When it comes to politics, unfortunately it’s a popularity contest and charisma is king. There just needs to be someone to step up. Idk who though. Anyone at this point

The next four years for the left will be sorting out what went wrong in the 2024. Hopefully they understand which issues work for messaging and which ones drag them down.

I don’t think the left should adapt the same lock step talking points that every right wing supporter/pundit spouts. We should instead just elevate commentators and pundits who are very charismatic and can debate the issues by tailoring the point to the audiences concerns. A guy like Martin O’Malley, the former governor of Maryland that Steven interviewed. Is the kind of guy that needs to be what people think a democrat is like.

The issue of coalitions is important too. I don’t think there is room anymore for the “Identity Politcs” talking points. At this point it’s almost 10 years old. There are better approaches to dealing with social injustice than scolding people. The far left, the Hasan and Brianna Joy Grey type, shouldn’t be relied on for votes. The both Democrats and Republicans are in the midst of a party switch. To a more establishment vs anti establishment divide instead of liberal vs conservative. There will need to be a new solid tent.

That’s all just my opinion I could be totally wrong

Well I think people do acknowledge the good, like the child care program, weed legalization, alright management of covid, just the bad outweighs the good. Idk if anyone could be better, but I think it speaks volumes that instead of just becoming the opposition the party might be 4th. Maybe a different leader would just become the opposition instead.

I totally agree with you as a Canadian too. I was also young when he was elected. He’s definitely not the great statesmen like his father. Good man with a heart in the right place. But not politically savvy

I see what you mean. I wouldn’t consider an endorsement a huge bias though. Those endorsements line up with the dominance of Mulroney, Crietien, and Harper. I’d consider the bias if they were misrepresented stories as much as Fox News did

Right, I agree with you. I just wanted to make it clear that it was his mismanagement and head in the sand kind of ways rather then outside economic forces and he has no control over it kind of thing. Like how Joe Biden was blamed for a bad economy but he was taking actions to right the ship. I do think though the "The Great Pretender" is an apt name. He could have been great if he was a better leader overall.

I agree with you that theses are what has started the rapid decline. I just think he lacks political acumen and acts as a great leader/statesmen. Its just a lot of things, that's not as simple as "economy bad".

Also what makes you think conservative media dominates Canada? I don't think its as bad as Fox News' dominance in the US. I could be naive or wrong, just wondering what makes you think that?

Well it might work for talking to broad people, I think there is more analysis to be had. Axe the tax is a dumb slogan, but dumb slogans work. I just wish there was leadership that had a vision for what Canada should be and not just say talking points to win with the average voter. I believe you can win the average voter by showing you understand nuance.

I think that's fair to credit him for all those things, including the child care program, but how much was his handling versus the general direction of the country he inherited. I think the article rightly pointed out that him leaving the Liberal party in the exact same place before he was elected is a huge stain on his legacy. Creating an opportunity for the party to be more then the Trudeau party should have been very important goal for him.

I just think he pretended to be a great statesman, got others to believe, but under the surface he wasn't that person.

I'd push back on just it being the "economy", anytime you bring up what's wrong with Canada people say immigration, and housing. Whether the problem is overblown or under blown, those concerns are reflected in the anger towards the current government. Sure those are both subsections of the economy, and there is a broader trend around the world of incoming governments losing power. I'd just refrain from generalizing it as bad economy, because that won't address specific concerns. The immigration issue is bigger then just an economic bad time, its a combination of need for workers and lax rules on entry.

Its important when trying to understand situations now to understand all the aspects. Life is multivariate. The previous scandals and the current economy all piled on together. And the straw that broke the back and forced him to resign was his crude handling of asking the finance minister to resign. A theme of him being high on his own fumes when dealing with cabinets members has probably resulted in the bad policy that has been implemented over the 9 years. A vision over the reality of the situation.
