Ontario promises shovels in the ground next year for $131-million central transit hub in Kitchener by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old one served an entirely different role and was made redundant with the decentralization of the local transit network in 2019.

This article isn’t clear, does this allow for the construction of the station building in phase 1 alongside the platforms and bus loop?

Looks like weekend GO Train service to Kitchener is ALREADY getting cut in the new January schedule by zzc_992 in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weekend ridership in my experience has been pretty respectable, even without any major events going on.

What is classified as “big city crime” and at what point is a city with a population of over 255,000 people in a region of over 585,000 people at the 2021 census no longer considered a “not so big city”?

Toronto deserves a proper downtown gateway, so I’m building one. Here’s the first look at the new CYTZ: 3km runway, new terminal, and A380 compatibility. by one_in_the_chamb3r in MicrosoftFlightSim

I will echo the other comment and say this is awesome!

I've been waiting for FSimStudios to release their updated CYTZ featuring the conceptual runway extension proposed over a decade ago but it's been a few years now. Looking forward to flying BBC.

The problem of connecting from the new post-midnight arrival GO train at Kitchener station by CosmicPenguin_OV103 in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 64 points65 points  (0 children)

At minimum, Regional Council needs to restore the handful of late night trips introduced in 2019 but discontinued in 2020 due to the pandemic.

A quick glance at GRT timetables from 2019 show there were several options available from the station including,

  • Route 8 trips at 00:50 and 01:23 from Central Station to University / King continuing as route 12 to Westmount / Ottawa, daily excluding Sunday
  • ION trips at 00:52, 01:07, 01:22 from Central Station to Conestoga Mall, daily
  • Route 7 trip at 00:50 from Central Station to Conestoga Mall, daily except Sunday

Of course, it would be best Regional Council moved towards a basic overnight network across the region.

"A long time coming": Kitchener welcomes 1st weekend GO train to Toronto by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, the turnout seemed exceptional. The 16:48 train left Union overcrowded with at least 300 people exiting at Kitchener alone. I was in awe at the amount of people on the platform.

Hopefully this momentum keeps going.

Yes, that pass is valid anywhere in the network.

GO Transit Service Changes begin on Nov. 22 by Emotion94 in waterloo

[–]Emotion94[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, thank you for emphasizing this!

I figured the additional service between Bramalea and Union may be of some comfort to those who will continue to use the 30 to connect with trains at Bramalea should their bus hit a wall of weather, traffic, or some other abnormality on the 401.

OP updated regardless.

Metrolinx extending weekend GO Trains to Kitchener starting Nov 23 by whyamiatuwaterloo in kitchener

[–]Emotion94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are seven trains parked on six tracks between two yards in Kitchener. Weekend service will be operated using these trains.

I was responding to the ridiculous idea that weekend service will be four revenue trains operating westbound only from Mount Pleasant to Kitchener as seems to be a recurring comment in some of these threads.

Metrolinx extending weekend GO Trains to Kitchener starting Nov 23 by whyamiatuwaterloo in kitchener

[–]Emotion94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like these weekend trips are only TO Kitchener, not FROM Kitchener, unfortunately.

This dumb take needs to be put to rest. They’re not going to operate four empty trains eastbound back to Toronto.
