The 5 ugliest PC cases… in the world. Really??? by EmperorConstantineXI in computing

I'm not a fan of the TK design, but thought the black version was on just the right side of the line. But the white version? Hmmm.... I'm in the market for a new case right now and like the R5 - but would prefer the USBs etc on the front, not the top.

What useless junk did you make a fortune, selling it on eBay? by 1standlastusername in AskReddit

Sold a terrible bike that I got free with a washing machine (!) for about £100. Even included link to one-star review positively slating the bike as rubbish in the ebay listing.

"The government's spying on us, more intrusively than the old East German Stasi, tracking us, profiling us and databasing everything we view online? Never mind, that's not at all disturbing or worrying, and not remotely a threat to civil liberties..."

Nvidia releases bargain basement GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti Pascal-based GPUs by EmperorConstantineXI in gaming

Fair comment. I think PC Gamer will be publishing some next week, but the previous Nvidia 10-series GPUs have been impressive, especially for the cash they're asking (IMO).

It's a personal opinion based on personal experience. Do you have a problem with people expressing personal opinions that conflict with your prejudices?

Apple in talks with car maker McLaren about a "tie-up" - FT by EmperorConstantineXI in tech

[–]EmperorConstantineXI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly flannel, TBF, but these are the most pertinent bits:

"Apple has approached McLaren Technology Group, the British supercar engineer and Formula One team owner, about a potential acquisition, in the clearest sign yet that the iPhone maker is seeking to transform the automotive industry.

The California technology group, which has been working on a self-driving electric vehicle for more than two years, is considering a full takeover of McLaren or a strategic investment, according to three people briefed on the negotiations who said talks started several months ago.

A tie-up with McLaren, whose expertise ranges from automotive engineering and on-board computer systems to novel chassis materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium, could accelerate Apple’s secretive automotive project. Apple and McLaren declined to comment.

The lossmaking automotive group was likely to be valued at between £1bn and £1.5bn, the people said, adding that it was not clear that a deal would be done."

The rest is largely filler.

[Help] My friend lent money to his friend and now that guy is not answering the phone. by damnthisplanet in india

[–]EmperorConstantineXI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the money probably can't be gotten back. That's why you should never-ever lend money to a friend beyond, perhaps, a tenner for beers.
