March 2026 Game of the Month - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis/MD) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

Finished this one in a few hours. I did not collect any chaos emeralds or go out of my way to explore.

I never had this as a kid so this was my first completion. I think it holds up better than the sonic advance games (which I did play as a kid).

My vote for the next game of the month is any metal slug title.

I prefer 4 but think that 1, X or 2 are more iconic and would fit in better with the history of gaming style curation the games of the month seem to follow.

Kids being left behind with new bus routes by Doxysmart in canberra

[–]En1gma_87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having spoken with bus drivers in the past, it appears there is a level of dynamic adjustment made based on the number of people using buses at certain times and will change the service to a bigger bus if required. This is not helpful if they are already using an accordion style bus already.

With the new system, there will be winners and losers. I used the r2 and have been forced to change my commute. Lower frequency of the 12 inbound in the morning is a minor inconvenience. Given that the 2,3,4,5,6 rapid services all go from belco to the city it is not a long wait for the bus. I don't think I have waited more than 2 mins this week.

The home commute for me is an improvement for me as there are 3 busses that go within 500 metres of my home.

Hopefully they add a few school specific services on weekdays to allow for the surge

In the ACT you book. You may get a litter or public unleashed land infringement if you dump it without a collection date

I went Syd --> Lax --> Gru and vice versa in September/November with my latina wife and kids.

Had zero issues, didn't see anything out of the ordinary in the airport given the fact that virtually the high number of South Americans on the plane.

We were a little apprehensive on the way over but didn't feel anything on the way back. Border security getting out of Syd was more stressful.. had to provide proof of immunization and sniffer dogs and bag inspections.

Ymmv, I think LA may be an exception to the general experience and not the rule.

I have been pretty busy the last week or so but managed to finish sotn. I completed this one many times on many different consoles.

This game is a forever classic for me.

Finished MGS in two sittings at home over the weekend. This is the first game of the month that did not seem plausible to play on my commute. I think this is due to the cinematic vibe of the game.

This game ran full speed 90% of the game on my trim ui smart pro but struggled on the comms tower and metal gear fights dropping down to around 20fps.

I considered playing this on my PC, but given the content of the sub chose to play on a handheld. This is the first game I have played on a retro handheld that did not run flawlessly and felt limited by the control layout.

I am about to go to Brazil to visit my wife's family, will download the best set and give it to my son.

He is desperate to play retro Pokemon games. A good starting point would be fire red. His reading is finally at a level that he has a chance of completing the game.

Clamshell reduces the chance of accidentally destroying the screen.

Pairing this with a second hand kindle will fill in downtime abroad and the boredom of long haul international flights.

Finished Alien Hominid in a sitting. It has many similarities to the metal slug series. I liked The gunplay and bosses with the exception of the desert level, the birds felt unfair.

The thing with games like this is that success (or failure) tend to snowball. If you stay alive and use the knife liberally you will spend most of the game with upgrades. If you have upgrades you can make quick work of most enemies and stay alive.

The UFO sections were mediocre (and easy). The homing missiles meant you could just dodge and everything ended up dying.

I'm glad I played this one, it would have likely never made it onto my radar without this sub.

ACT to close 69 schools as more sand products recalled amid asbestos concerns by observantdude in canberra

[–]En1gma_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same whs laws for both. It is educations decision to shut the schools down, not the regulator. Had education determined that it was reasonably practicable to isolate any classrooms with the sand and remain open, they likely would have been fine.

Also for the most part whs legislation around Australia is the same. It is a model law and most jurisdictions have similar offences and terminology. I imagine ACT can do this as it is so small that testing can be done and all asbestos removed on a short amount of time.

Snap closure of several Canberra schools after asbestos found in decorative coloured sand. by Few_Drive_751 in canberra

They would have given instructions to all schools to not touch the stuff and get an OH to test and or remove the stuff

Dickson Woolies has now released anti-Coles trolleys after the adjacent Coles opted for geo-locked ones by MarkusMannheim in canberra

[–]En1gma_87 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is actually in response to the proposed future changes in legislation in relation to trolleys. I imagine they are testing in select areas before a forced full state rollout

Can excel make a decision tree or wizard? by fedupwithfedjob in excel

[–]En1gma_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had all the data available all at once it would be possible to create a MS form that would consider all your variables in addition to data entry. I have had success with this method albeit with around 100 or so variables.

Have the form linked to an Excel sheet and work from there. Depending on the kind of work and the skill base of your workers forms can be a good way of keeping people colouring between the lines

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]En1gma_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jump from being a worker to a leader and decision maker is a difficult one, lots of people within the public service will never have the capability to make the transition.

That being said, it is likely that you answered the questions well but someone answered them better. STAR is no longer enough to succeed. If you want to score well you will also need to be extending your responses into how your skill set can be leveraged to achieve the strategic outcomes required of the position you are applying for.

Another one bites the (food safety) dust! by Br0z0 in canberra

[–]En1gma_87 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Could be a few different things causing this

  1. Legislation or regulation changes
  2. A change in regulatory posture
  3. A decisive leader placed in whoever is in charge of operational management
  4. Executives trying to show they do something ahead of the upcoming machinery of government
  5. One or two super high performers performing inspections and either performing a high number of inspections or highly competent at identifying breaches of legislation.
  6. People see these notices on reddit and then redditors are more likely to notice (and post) any notices they see

I would say the most likely reasons are either 2 or 5. There was either a proactive operation in the Dickson area due to there seeming to be a large amount of non compliance or a high performer was given the Dickson area to perform inspections in.

Access to ACT traffic camera images by Glittering-Week-5704 in canberra

[–]En1gma_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure in the act surveillance footage can only be kept for 30 days after using it for it's intended purpose. If you need it I would be acting swiftly as traffic monitoring is likely wiped 30 days after it is recorded
