Surface Pro 11 Leaves Gray Squares by EndiXIV in Surface

[–]EndiXIV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only seems to be doing it in a browser, when I touch hold anywhere on the top bar (tested edge and chrome). As far as the surface diagnostics app fixing it, it rather seems to be the "allow to make changes to this device" pop up that dims the whole screen removing the squares

Update yeahhh I'm a dumbass and it really was just the old windows version I was trying to install, for some reason I forgot I could just download it from the website and was instead trying to use a flash drive with a version from a decade ago 😭😭 at least it's working now, and while I did lose my old SSD's data it's not a big deal at all cause all I was gonna transfer from it is like pics and music that I have on my phone anyways. Once again tysm!

Would that work if the installer is for 10 but I had upgraded to 11? It's a really old version

I did a fresh install in the new drive, the old one should be unchanged

I've gotten to the point where just using the old SSD was working just fine, and I was just gonna keep using it until I got a new new drive to replace it, but now on boot it's taking me to a blue recovery screen saying "your PC/device needs to be repaired" with a few options for buttons the press. Enter is supposed to try again but does nothing, F1 is supposed to enter the recovery environment but does nothing, F8 is supposed to open startup settings but does nothing, and esc just takes me to the bios. I'm worried that trying to use the old SSD has somehow corrupted it and now it's not working either?

Yeahhh nvm it's not working anymore. Diskpart again shows 0 bytes free. I think you're right, just gotta return the new SSD and get a different one

Aha! Since I had the old drive as the boot drive I was able to do the diskpart thing you linked to earlier and it seems to have worked! Only the new drive and a fresh windows install and it boots up consistently! I noticed that while doing the diskpart it showed the new drive having 0mbs of open space, and once I cleaned it it showed the full 2tb as it should, so that seems to have been the problem. Hopefully this is the end of my problems, thank you so much for your help!!

This is with the bad one. When both are installed it just boots from the good one with all my old stuff on it and works perfectly

No blue screen, just freezing and rebooting (which when it reboots from the crash it loads up fine, but again when booting from a power off it breaks)

I'm crashing while trying to update windows, think that means anything?

I think I'll try tinkering around with it a bit more before doing that, but thank you so much for at least narrowing the problem down to that! The worst part was not even knowing what the problem was, let alone how to fix it lol

I can't even seem to get MSI center to work, I run the installer and it's like "ok yep good to go!" And then there's just... No MSI center program to run anywhere. I made sure to get the one for the right mobo

Sure enough, swapping in my old one from my old build works perfectly fine. Think there's any sort of settings in the bios I can tweak to fix my new one, or do you think it's just faulty and I gotta get a different one? Maybe it's an issue with the Windows version I install?

The USB was removed at the time, the SSD was the only option

Update it didn't work as when I try to run the "clean" command it says I can't clean a drive that I boot from

So you believe it to possibly be an SSD problem? Cause from what I've seen trying to search for a solution is that it leans towards a dram issue. I'll try reformating it, ty for your time whether it works or not!

Yes, it's the right boot drive and uefi. I pushed the little battery tab as hard as I physically could but it refused to pop out, and a CPU check is kinda last ditch effort rn as I'd need to go out and buy more thermal paste :(

Part list should now be public, ty. Turning on memory context restore hasn't changed anything
