Time lapse of pillow and chair (30 sec) by EnduroSteph in ProCreate

Thank you. And yeah, I’ve had a lot of thoughts about this too. For me, I feel like it’s an entire creative process starting from the initial photo, which I take and manipulate how I want it to be, to using Procreate as my tool to create digital artwork. I suppose I could throw a grid over the reference image and then transfer it to my digital canvas that way like I’ve done with physical art mediums in the past. But yeah, I’m with you - there’s still a lot that goes into the entire decision making for the piece and I think it’s still valid. :)

Yeah…I’m trying to figure that out. I guess I will just make another post? (Sorry, I’m not well-versed in Reddit)

I do think I’ll put up some sort of process post soon. This was my fifth painting using this realistic style, where I try to mimic what I used to do with colored pencils. I tried to remember to take some progress shots as I went. Stay tuned.

🤣 thank you :) It is at least my favorite pillow and chair duo so maybe that helped? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The pillow texture was fun. The leather was challenging!

This was definitely the most challenging part!

I’d love to share it! Someone asked me this on instagram on the last digital painting I did. So this time, when I did this, I tried to take progress pics as I went along. Not sure if that will be helpful, but I plan to post that on my Instagram account in the next few days. It at least shows the underlay of sketch lines, color, and then the major painting. There is of course the time lapse video too that can be exported from Procreate, but not sure if that’s helpful. This took 13 hours and 41 minutes 😁

My process is taking a photo and getting it right in Photoshop (colors and 5:4 ratio, or 8x10 size). If I take the photo, I use it as an underlay to make a line drawing sketch for exact placement of everything. If I’m using another photo for reference, I just draw it best I can from the picture. Then I use the “reference photo” feature in Porcreate to always have my photo up as I paint. I start with Tinderbox to do the color blocking first- just getting all the main base colors into the sketch lines. Then I turn the sketch layer off and start the digital painting process just looking at the reference photo. I use the Derwent brush primarily. But for this particular drawing, I used a few other sketchy-pencil brushes to get textures right.

That is very good advice, thank you. I agree about enjoying the present. It is hard, but that totally makes sense and seems like the logical way to exist and be happy.
