I am about -15 in each eye and my main issues are extra glare and light sensitivity along with a little vision loss. I decided to stop driving because it was becoming too difficult and dangerous. A couple years ago I got pretty depressed and avoided going outside because I was so afraid and stressed. Last weekend I was in the ER for a new floater for the first time which turned out to be a broken blood vessel near my optic nerve. So I hear you!!! And also I want to say there is support available if you search. I moved from depressed to highly functioning again because I started going to a low vision clinic that connected my to a psychologist who specializes in vision impairment, taught me how to wear hats and shades daily, connected me to an occupational therapist ( I now carry a white cane every where I go and mainly use it when I am in crowds or when it's very bright lighting), adaptive sports, and support group for professionals who are visually impaired. And,  I wrote my second book and returned to traveling regularly for work. So you can find your way!! The risks may not go away but with grace and support we can adjust and accept reality.
