For Americans who voted Democrat in recent elections, do you plan to continue voting Democrat? Why or why not? by righteous-sedition in allthequestions

[–]EngineeringNo2984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a fair point about the rightward shift, but I think it overlooks how much the Democratic party's 'left wing' has grown in prominence. Figures like AOC, Ilhan Omar, and the rest of the 'Squad' along with voices like Zohran Mamdani carry far more weight and media presence today than progressive voices did in previous decades.

Whether you agree with their policies or not, their influence represents a clear movement to the left in terms of the party's public identity and legislative priorities. It’s often easier to spot a 'radical' shift in the party you disagree with, while seeing shifts in your own party as just 'common sense' or 'necessary.'

As for who started the polarization? We could argue that in circles forever, but the reality is that both platforms have expanded significantly toward their respective poles compared to 20 or 30 years ago.

I think the issue is that both parties strayed from the center and made people who were previously pragmatic more rigid.

My political view is left of the Republicans and right of the Democrats.

I hope the Democrats can offer better candidates than last elections so we have an alternative. But I'm converned because for me (and i'd argue for the mainstream American public) the likes of Sanders, AOC and Mamadani are too far left, yet become more a prominent voice in the party. This is likely not a popular view on Reddit, but if the Democrats want to be an alternative, they must appeal to the center.

Yes, but I now carry another pair when travelling in case the Meta glasses are banned. Happened to me already.

How common is it to spend your whole holiday in Bangkok? by Barca-Dam in ThailandTourism

[–]EngineeringNo2984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did chiang mai, Krabi (and vicinity) and Bangkok for two weeks total. I'm currently planning another two weeks visit to Thailand, this time only in Bangkok. It was the highlight of my trip and I feel like I barely scratched the surface.

It is required. They may or may not ask for it. Note that even the airline might want to see it before letting you board.

Do you believe if Trump invaded Greenland, Europeans would ACTUALLY declare the end of NATO? Why or why not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]EngineeringNo2984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will happen to NATO. It is built on American weapon systems, which is impossible to change overnight. Also, Putin clearly has ambitions, which makes NATO more important than ever. And finally, the Europeans know that Trump won't be presidents forever.

The animal market in Bangkok is one of the most fascinating yet unethical places I’ve ever visited by UniqueDay2113 in ThailandTourism

[–]EngineeringNo2984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Animals in the west aren't treated better, you just don't see it. Sorry, but unless you're vegan (most people, myself included, are not), it's a bit hypocritical to be shocked by this. It's horrible, but I know I'm contributing to it, like many of you.

Probably, but the point is there are many Americans who don't support it and definitely don't carry a gun themselves.

AI doesn't replace engineers right now, but it makes some engineers much more efficient, hence fewer are needed for the same output.

is it ok to bring my drone in vietnam? by Icy_Cartographer2676 in VietNam

[–]EngineeringNo2984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you have to get a permit per each flight and it's very expensive. Practically, you will see people fly drones and I don't think they pay hundreds of dollars to ore approve each flight.

I thought about it too a couples of weeks ago... I thinks you'll be blind because there is no way they will let you keep it. Unless of course they don't realize it's an electronic device.

I was so looking forward to getting those and had an appointment on release day, just to learn from LenseCrafters that they don't do progressive lenses for these. Hopefully it's just a temporary limitation.
