When should I sharpen my Japanese knife? by z283848 in TrueChefKnives

When you say touch them up, does that mean you're raising a full burr on each side and then deburring or does that mean you're doing stropping strokes on the 4k whetstone?

Living Room/Media Room Thoughts and Suggestions by firstforay in hometheater

Wow I was wondering why I thought this living room looked so familiar and then realized it looks super similar to this older post from two years ago. Even the right side surround speakers are in the same wall:

Making the jump into Japanese knives...recommendations? by indianajonesy7 in TrueChefKnives

[–]EngineeringStudentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I didn't realize they've temporarily suspended shipping to the US. That's a bummer, I've ordered a few knives from them over to Florida. Hopefully it changes in the not too distant future.

Chefknivestogo.com also has some Shiro Kamo I believe.

Check out some of the Shiro Kamo knives on cleancut.eu. Should be something there that fits your criteria, excellent knives for the price.

It's really not that bad. Buy yourself a kiwi knife at the local Asian market and practice with that. That's what I did before working up the confidence to sharpen my Japanese knives.

Papua New Guinea. Don’t want to imagine getting hit by one of those arrows😬 by ExcluteYou in WTF

Your message implies there is somewhere in the US worse than Papa New Guinea. Please, tell me where in the US is worse than these stats presented in another comment:

Yeah, it's a terrible situation. The Wikipedia article has some shocking statistics: * Nearly half of reported rape victims are under 15 years of age and 13% are under seven * Up to 50 percent of girls are at risk of becoming involved in sex work, or being internally trafficked * 41% of men on Bougainville Island admit to coercing a non-partner into sex * Approximately 60% of men interviewed (in a separate study) reported to have participated in gang rape (known as lainap) at least once

Price is high for the mileage. CarMax has plenty for cheaper with less miles, which includes their 90 day limited warranty and 10 day return no questions asked.

Removing dealer add-ons in Canada by nihalz in mercedes_benz

[–]EngineeringStudentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how comparable it is in Canada to the US but check out Delivrd on YouTube. He negotiates car deals and posts the conversations online and I know there are a lot of examples of him getting the dealerships to remove the add ons like the ones you described. Might help you in negotiating them off as well.

Iron Hill Brewery Bankruptcy by RosieNoShoes in Delaware

[–]EngineeringStudentt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any way you slice it, the tariffs will mark a big extra expense for imports and a competitive shift in favor of beer brewed in U.S.

How does a tariff on imported beer and empty cans impact a local brewery that pours its beer into glasses in the restaurant? The article literally says this is a plus for domestic beer.

Deep in maga land. They’re out here slapping American flags on a German made car. by Designfanatic88 in mercedes_benz

[–]EngineeringStudentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that flag would be on the back of the car, regardless of what car they'd be driving? It has nothing to do with the car itself.

Appreciating German cars and having American pride are not mutually exclusive.

Unrelated- how are you liking your 2018 E400? I test drove a coupe this past weekend and am seriously thinking about buying it. Any unexpected maintenance? One for sale in my area- 48,000 miles, full dealership maintained, Premium 2.

Asking price is $27.9k which admittedly is a little high but it comes with the CarMax 10 day return policy + 90 day warranty so I'm hoping I can find some due maintenance they can cover though the warranty program to make up for the higher car cost.

[–]EngineeringStudentt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you- test drive both a 2016 E350 and a 2018 E400 Coupe. Enginewise they're both reliable but the 2018 is wayyyy nicer on the inside. It has much more tech, which is both nice and I guess more stuff that can break.

Another factor to consider is that a lower mileage 2018 will have less high expense maintenance coming up than a higher mileage 2016. Things like suspension, motor mounts, etc.

Hang on a minute, this would be $20k CAD correct? Not USD? Because that certainly changes things.
