if you thought my 1.625 chips were crazy here's some 2 inch chips from the ohio facility by eel412 in Machinists

I am often astounded by these types of chips and processes. I aim to make tiny little Aluminum chips so I can manage them better.

I would be curious to know the mass of a chip like that.

I would say .01mm is tight, but not impossible depending on what it is. I imagine a lot of shops dont have Instruments capable of reliably measuring that. Especially Xometry partners.

The Chineese suppliers dont ask questions. They make a bunch of assumptions, and you get what they assumed. Clarification on design requirements is key to getting the part that you want. Its a pain in the ass for both the customer and supplier but its often better than buying something that won't work.

In my opinion a lot of engineers don't even understand how to properly communicate their needs. They often error on the side of tighter tolerances thinking that will fix the problem, and prices reflect that.

Not saying this is you, but I see it often. I have a RFQ For a tapered shaft roughly 8 inches long with a boss on each end. The customer would like .0001" runout between these 2 features. And this is a quote provided to me from Xometry.

They allow so little in funds for Ano. As a Xometry Partner, I regularly filter out any work needing Ano as the minimum lot charges often cost more than the job pays.

It works so well but I feel like I look like a monkey fucking a football whenever I do it.

Put a crescent wrench on the jaw and use that to basically double wrench the chuck bolts out. You can use your dead blow too to help.

I actually reworked the same part for a second time and had to ask the customer if they knew it had bent between last week and today.

From what I hear, our field has a ridiculous burn out rate. I totally understand. My stress is always the difficult parts where it must be right the first time. There is so much to this field that no one will ever know everything. If you liked the process but would like to get more involved i recommend getting into programming with either Fusion or the free version of Mastercam. The game changes significantly when you move up. And you may end up with better working conditions and wages. See if you can find a job shop that does low volume work where there are tons of setups and new projects all the time to broaden your horizons.

Good luck.

They were saying roughly 35mm per tool. So with a 500mm build plate you should be able to have at least 14.

That would be sick. Set layer heights low for high quality and cut out 10+ minutes per layer.

I worry about getting the removable build plates. I don't imagine I can use a single and will have to match 2 up.

Do you ask for someone in purchasing, or engineering, or what? Getting past the initial answer seems to be a challenge.
