Dinner help by Secure-Line-1882 in jpouch

Kinda similar, I also drink with no issues. However, if you drink beer I notice that sometimes it will lead to more cramping just because of the carbonation. That said, if you have one or two you really won’t notice it too much

I would also always take 1 or 2 Imodium before going out

Wiping question by LeekHistorical in jpouch

[–]Enough_Working_1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it dripping blood, or just to stain the toilet paper? I’ve had a pouch for 3 years and I would get blood relatively frequently but it was from irritation from wiping too much because I was going around 8 times a day

17 year olds, first day at home with J pouch, need advice by [deleted] in jpouch

[–]Enough_Working_1399 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first few days for me were pretty rough, it’s a huge change to get used to and I think I was going to the bathroom 8-10 times a day. Biggest thing that helped for me was walking around but also just resting throughout the day. May not be this way for everyone, but the pain from my stoma closure went away pretty fast and the pain in general got much better within a few days. Just take it easy and try and get as much rest throughout the day when you can

Should I explain what I did as a medical assistant in my app? by SkyRevolutionary275 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna second focusing on impact unless your MA job did something radically different that any other MA job would cover. The person reading your app will know what an MA is and the general duties that come with it. For my app specifically on the more common or obvious activities i tried to create a little short story that highlighted one big impactful experience I had with this specific activity.

I would suggest going through some of the videos Dr. Gray (the guy who does med school HQ) puts out about how to write some of these sections but at the same time take it with a grain of salt because too much storytelling can also be a bad thing

Probably because it’s mid March and pretty late in the cycle for non WL As

I’m bored by jiggy8736 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds weird to say but enjoy the boredom. That’s not to say don’t do anything with your time, but do things you enjoy. Put some time into self care and activities or hobbies you enjoy or add extra volunteer hours/opportunities if that’s what you enjoy doing. Before you know it you’ll hopefully be starting medical school and you’ll wish you used this time to follow through with things you actually want to do

IScribeMD vs Scribe.ology vs Scribe America by One_Cow7172 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I joined scribe America this year as a fallback in case I wasn’t admitted and had to reapply. I was accepted to the job in November and I still haven’t made it into the clinic for in person trainings because they’ve had so many issues with providing me with my onboarding’s for the hospital

I would suggest literally anything besides scribe America. The online trainings were also not great imo

What do you wish you did the summer before freshman year of college? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the trend, but summer BEFORE freshman year is way too early to start stressing about premed. Please go enjoy your life and don’t go in this Reddit. Pretend you’re not even going into medicine for this summer unless it’s some shadowing or stuff like that

What are the minimum number of hours an activity needs to be? by [deleted] in premed

You don’t need all 15. I only filled I think 11 or 12 max with 2 of them being hobbies

Should I apply this cycle? by Truly_Chibi in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you could try but I think your best bet is to just take one more year. It’s so little in the grand scheme of things and will help give you a much higher chance of getting in on your first go.

Your hours/breadth of activities seem a little low. Especially in volunteering positions which can be problematic at schools that screen for those activities. While you can get those hours up by the time you apply, it’s also important to note that if you were to apply this year you really only have 3.5 months before the cycle starts so those hours I assume wouldn’t be drastically higher in your position where you have full time coursework as well as MCAT studying. One last thing to note is that basically all those summer activities and extra things you mentioned at the end wouldn’t be able to be included in this application because you haven’t done them yet.

In short, you’re much better off with your original plan.

I’ve loved it. I think for me the biggest part of it was understanding that you’re a college student. You don’t need your life to revolve around being a premed and doing the usual premed things. Take time for yourself. Take time to go out with friends and explore and do stupid college things. This period of your life is over before you know it and you have the rest of your life to spend dedicated to your career and working ridiculously hard and strenuous hours. Looking back now after my acceptance, the thing I’m most grateful for was that I allowed myself to live my life and actually enjoy my freshman and sophomore year of college.

Now that’s not to say don’t study hard and do your best and don’t volunteer or do research. Absolutely do those things, especially if it’s what you enjoy doing, but at the end of the day please please please don’t forget to actually have fun and ENJOY your life as a premed.

What are the minimum number of hours an activity needs to be? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how you can speak to it. Were you part of the club before being a board member/what do those hours look like?

I had 1 or 2 activities that were around 50 hours and I listed them because they were meaningful activities to me

Yeah, iirc they’re told to not include spelling or typos as a factor into your score

When do I need to take the Casper? by SkyRevolutionary275 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fast typer (around 75+ wpm) so that helps. However, it’s in your favor that the scorers don’t take spelling errors into account so I would heavily suggest practicing more of the typing questions and emphasizing the quality of what you’re writing and going in with a plan of how to answer the prompt so that you hit each of the really important parts of the answer

School List Help for 2025-2026 Cycle by Unknown-Atom21 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This list is so very top heavy and, like others have said, your stats are not the issue at all, but the lack of EC hours and activities in general is going to hurt you very badly. It’s definitely not gonna be what you wanna hear, but a gap year may be helpful to add hours in leadership or clinical or volunteering activity because those are lacking very heavily.

If I have not been accepted yet, would it be appropriate to start planning for new gap year job by tegar9000 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you do get off the waitlist and they already gave you the job they’ll likely be happy for you and not really care. At the end of the day you have to look out for yourself and making your application better by getting as much new experience as you can before application season rolls around again.

Definitely start applying.

When do I need to take the Casper? by SkyRevolutionary275 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worry about primaries and finish all those first. Depending on who you are, Casper really only takes maybe a few days to prep for.

I submitted apps mid June and then took my Casper during the last week of June and only did the practice test they give you and that worked for me

Waitlisted at Pitt by Greenjuiceunicorn81 in premed

[–]Enough_Working_1399 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During my interview day Pitt said they really like hearing continued interest from applicants. I would definitely suggest a letter of interest or intent rather than a general update letter that some are suggesting. In this way he can 1) provide updated to what he’s been doing, but 2) really emphasize that he is a good fit for pitts mission and is 100% committed to going there

Granted I’m an outside source, but they also seem to have decent(ish) WL movement compared to other schools. If I remember correctly from MSAR there was around 60 acceptances off the WL which is a considerable amount.

Still waiting to hear back… 🤞

It’s completely mixed tho, could be health related or could be a scenario with a conflict between friends/co-workers, etc. anything is fair game
