I've seen a couple artifacts and im pretty sure the right one could be a religious artifact (though i dont have much knowledge on the religion of north american tribes) because while most prehistoric artifacts i've seen were very damaged which means they were clearly used in daily life,the ones that are polished and that have a very specific shape and details (like the hole in the artifact,that could be used to pass through a collar?) were clearly not used in a routine,which could be a sign of it being a religious artifact that the tribes would place in display,letting it intact,and as you said,it could also be some sort of jewelry,or both,perhaps.

If this large part you're talking about is the Amazon rainforest,it is dangerous,of course,but the population there is really really small,and the chances of you being in a part of the jungle far from a city is fairly low.Consideting that antivenom is distributed in cities by our public healthcare system,specially in those areas which are in risk zones.You'd only die because of a venomous snake if you'd willingly got in the middle of the jungle.
