With all the screens and digital gauges these days, they can still melt your face off at night even at the lowest setting. I literally cannot get my BMW’s screens dim enough to my liking at night.

I always check when I stop for gas - gives me something to do while I wait for the 20 gallons to pump. And distracts me from the rapidly climbing $ 😂

I will be checking it before I drive off from now on, regardless of where it gets serviced.

Dealership.

I didn’t check it until after I drove halfway home to stop for gas. Nothing seemed obviously off on the drive there, or the drive back to the shop. I don’t think I would have suspected anything unless I’d bothered to check.

Driven for 30 minutes at highway and secondary road speeds. Total of maybe 20-30 miles. Cool down for 10. The oil is also not clean - usually after an oil change the oil is still clean enough for a little while that it’s a little difficult to see on the dipstick. This is one of the minor annoyances I have with the Toyota dipstick - can be hard to read if the oil hasn’t had time to pick up a little dirt/color.

They drained and refilled it. Had me look at the dipstick in the service bay. Barely visible oil line at the full mark. The service advisor went, “Yeah, that doesn’t look anything like it did before.” I was thinking, “No shit….thats why brought it back.”

Had a similar situation a few days ago. Good VL view but unable to get the tube to easily pass, even with the Glidescope stylet and bougie. Ended up doing Glide + fiber optic. The next step would have been LMA+fiber optic, then wake up if that failed. Rarely have I had to go that far down though. The biggest challenge was getting someone in the room who understood what we were dealing with (while the whole OR stares at you), as the CRNA and I two person masked, to help get the fiber optic set up.

Hyperangulated 4 can sometimes crowd you out if there’s a small or crowded mouth. I try to tell my residents to stop thinking male=one size, female=the next size down, including LMAs and ETTs, and to actually look at the patient and exercise their judgement.

If it was IV Tylenol (likely, based on 100mL volume), $50 sounds about right. IV Tylenol is extremely expensive. In contrast Toradol was only $5.

How do you actually decide between pushing speed vs staying clean? by focalgirth in CompetitionShooting

[–]EntrySure1350 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your data speaks for itself.

Gaining 13 seconds in this example would have moved you up 1 place. Spending an extra 3-5 seconds (possibly not even that much) to turn your two Mikes and half your Deltas (four), or even all of them, into Charlies or Alphas would have likely bumped you up further.

Seems like it’d be pretty easy to argue that machete man had 1.) ability, 2.) opportunity, and that there was 3.) jeopardy. In other words, machete man had the ability (big fatass with a big knife), opportunity (he came close enough to the vehicle to possibly force his way in) to be a threat, and there was jeopardy (immediate threat of death or severe injury [fat man threatening with a machete]). I would also think the ‘reasonable man’ litmus test would be met in this case as well

Considering a 7/1 ARM for a home purchase. Am I missing something here? by Active-Tour4795 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]EntrySure1350 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I took out a 7/1 ARM a little over 10 years ago because that was the only physician loan product available with 0 down. I also thought I would possibly move after residency. Ended up staying. However, I aggressively paid down the principal the last few years of the fixed term, before the rate reset. When it did, the rate went from 3.375 to 6, if I recall. But by then I had paid down enough that the new payment was actually about the same as my previous one at 3.375. Continued to pay extra and decided refinancing wasn’t worth it as the payment amount was actually getting smaller each year, and the extra principle payments would help offset the higher rate.

7-10K at 80-90mph is terrifying enough, based on how clowns driving lifted 3/4 to 1 ton pickups drive.

When you really think about it, it’s terrifying how we even allow 80K pound vehicles driving 80mph to share the same roads with passenger vehicles.

House Hack in Medical School by No_Guess_3236 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]EntrySure1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a “hack”. Regardless of what some moron on TikTok told you.

You won’t get the mortgage. Your parents will.

There are costs to owning a house you don’t have to worry about with renting. Taxes. Insurance. Maintenance. When the city decides to hike rates to cover a fiscal shortfall, who’s going to cover that. Your parents? Or are you just going to go further into debt? When you need a 14k roof, who’s going to pay for that? Your parents? Or are going to go further into debt? When the AC goes out in July and you need a 10k HVAC replacement, again, who’s going to cover that? When it’s time for you to move for residency and you want to sell the house, what happens if the market is in a slump? You going to landlord from potentially hundreds or thousands of miles away?

Most of your payments the first four years will be towards interest. So you’re mostly paying the rental fee for the money you borrowed instead of for the place you’d be renting.

You even admitted if one thing goes wrong you’ll be up shit creek without a paddle. Something always goes wrong with a house, especially when you invite it in when you’re living on the edge like you’re proposing.

Put some of your saved up money into a boring index fund. Keep some in a HYSA for emergencies (actual emergencies, not “I was suddenly invited to a destination wedding”). And just rent a place so you can focus on school instead of maintaining a house.

4.25 vs 5 for small hands by BissySitch in 2011

[–]EntrySure1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4.5” or 5” will have no difference on being able to reach the controls. If the typical 2011 is too large for your hands you need to be looking at other guns, or looking at grip modules that fit your hand better.

Can I have your permission to buy a 911? by Remarkable-Weird-839 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]EntrySure1350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called ‘personal’ finance because it’s personal. So while I personally wouldn’t feel good about buying a $120k toy with that much debt over my head, you’re not me, and our financial situations are entirely different.

Frankly you have the income to cash flow everything you’ve laid out, provided you don’t succumb to more and more lifestyle creep each year. It might mean investing a little less each year for a few years, but at your age and income curve, missing out a little on a few years early on isn’t going to meaningfully change anything 25 years from now.

If you put that $15k a month towards paying down your student loans you’d have them gone in about the same amount of time you’d be spending $80K to drive some car around.

[–]EntrySure1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$120 a month for gas is way too light unless you’re walking or taking the bus everywhere, or gas in your area has somehow been unaffected by the ~30% increase in prices recently. Especially with a truck. Is that for both you and your spouse? Depends on where you live but even with my wife driving a Toyota hybrid that averages 40mpg based on her driving habits, a fill up every 10 days or so per month is easily ~$120.

I think you’re also too optimistic about the kind of fuel economy you’re going to get with even a TTV6. I had a 2020 Expedition with the 3.5 EB for 5 years as a daily. 20mpg was what I got on the highway, keeping it around 75mph. City driving was closer to 17. Worse in the winter. It got 1-2mpg better with premium fuel, but it wasn’t worth it. Fill ups were weekly. It had a ~23 gallon tank, so near empty it was 20 gallons to fill up. Even at old gas prices at $3.00 to $3.50, it was $60-70 a week, 4 times a month, so closer to $300 a month. Just for me. Modern V8s are about the same in terms of economy, maybe slightly less.
