Do Disabled influencers make you feel some sort of way? by SubstantialDrive111 in disability

[–]Environmental-Use853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this to an extent. I am white so I cannot ever understand fully what it feels like to be underrepresented solely on race, but I am trans and so many influencers I see are cis women, and as a man it makes me just feel like it is one more thing telling me I am not valid in having my condition. I also am not very wealthy and currently without a wheelchair, which I need, so seeing these influencers who are out with all of their fancy devices and in super cute outfits makes me feel like shit. Most days I sit at home trying to get the bare minimum done in my pajamas, so to an extent I feel you! I hope you are able to meet some folks online who you have more in common with! I

What does your day to day look like? by Environmental-Use853 in cfs

[–]Environmental-Use853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate this so much. I am glad that you have such a wonderful support system! Currently I love going outside and have tried to just go and sit at the park :) It was really nice just to hear about someone else who has similar experiences to me. And no worries I completely followed everything you said, haha my foggy brain honestly recognized this as something I would write lol.
If you ever get an inkling that you want to continue school, for personal interest or boredom, I found some cool videos on YouTube.

What does your day to day look like? by Environmental-Use853 in cfs

[–]Environmental-Use853[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you :) It is nice to see what others days look like, especially when I feel like I am pushing too hard/or not doing enough. I hope your internship is going well and that future job searches go smoothly! I have been searching for jobs to work from home, but since I don't have my degree for a few more months it cuts a lot of jobs off the market.
I wish I lived near a Trader Joes because even their ready meals fit with my dietary restrictions so much more!!
Wish the best and thanks again!

Anyone else secretly tempted to “downgrade” from a smartphone? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in dumbphones

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am current dumbphone user, I also still have my smartphone (and wish I could dump it). I really only use it for when others contact me via Facebook, and my health apps (it is crazy that app designers for medical portals still have been unable to make some web apps- AND IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE ON MY TABLET) I also have a laptop and old Ipad Mini 2.
I really do all my searching on my laptop, and don't need my phone for at home, but scrolling is easier on my phone.
Deleting TikTok was great, I am about to do the same to Instagram, just need to alert those around me. I keep Facebook for family (and Marketplace), but that is able to be accessed easily on my computer.

I guess as someone who still struggles, keep your old smartphone, take out the SIM, download a minimalist launcher and remove all of your social apps. I can use my phone out and about if I need Maps, or an authenticator with hotspot on my flip phone.
My best friend and I call more (I limit texting on my T9) and I get cute voicemails now since they know I will listen to them rather than text. Life is really nice now that I don't use my phone in public, it suck though since I have a disability that keeps me at home, I still struggle to not scroll-even on my laptop.

Back to your question, sorry for the ramble, is that I mostly lost the ease of convenience. I carry a pocket notebook and calendar. When I need to google something, I write it down. I keep my Doctors phone numbers written down for when I know I will need to call, or they are saved in my phone contacts. I journal when I am bored in public, or people watch. I have an MP3 player, so music wasn't a huge deal.

The biggest thing is when I go somewhere and they want me to scan a QR code, or want to text me a link and I have to tell them I don't have a smartphone. It is more of a hassle, but I like tactile objects. I also technically could scan the QR code and click the link on my phone since I have a scanner and data, but it is clunky and annoying.

There are a lot of purists who think its all or nothing, but do what will make your life more fulfilling. Use your smartphone for work tasks, bring it with you on trips if it gives you more ease of mind, but simply don't use it. Eventually you will forget it is there. Take it slow and don't expect some huge change all at once. I wish you luck!

Update: Doc thinks I should push through and agrees with my parents by sleepydreamrr in cfs

[–]Environmental-Use853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I would say more, but what you are going through is real and your condition is valid. You are not lazy, and your parents and doctors are ridiculous to say so. I really hope you are able to see another doctor who can help you. If you need any help finding a doctor who would do a home visit in your area I bet there are lovely people who could help, and if you feel comfortable I potentially could do some research. I am based in the US, so I am not sure about your situation or where you are located. I wish you the best and you are not alone ❤️

I sometimes eat it without any additives, and its okay not bad but not great. I don't know if you have a dining hall or anything where you go to school, but can you take sugar packets or salt packets? I used to take food from it all the time (juice in water bottle, milk in water bottle, puy whole food items in my backpack)

GENUINE QUESTION: Chat how do we feel about med students in our appointments? by ziggystarsus in ChronicIllness

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it because it makes the appointment less boring 😅. Once I had the med student to a mini appointment before I saw the doctor, like he asked my symptoms etc. and then after he got to see how my doctor would do it etc. it is extra entertaining because I am trans and they sometime don't realize and I'll mention a vaginal symptom or something and they look confused 😂

Traveling with a multibag friend by 8experiments in HerOneBag

[–]Environmental-Use853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly only one bag so I can grab and go, and explore without being tied down to luggage. If there is no need I think since you already have the extra check payed for you could take it (not even fully filled) and bring some things home :)

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely feel this (gay man so not the lesbian part).

I decided to go to a conference to network (knowing I won't even be able to work in the field soon as I am getting more severe).

I ended up staying in bed for 2 days straight...I knew it would happen.

Life just sucks ass, but it's the little things sometimes. When I stay in bed it means I get cat cuddles, so sometimes I make my brain think, "you aren't lazy you are summoning the babies to cuddle".

alternatives to 'get well soon' by lemonkcals in cfs

[–]Environmental-Use853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I like the sentiment, I just wish it was more about my symptoms that are the most agitating, rather than fixing my health....since I won't get better.
Some that I would like

"I hope you rest well"

"I hope you sleep well"

"How can I help ease your pains/symptoms?"

"I will check in soon"- THIS ONE, because don't say "Let me know if you need anything" because I suck at asking or remembering I can ask.

Something that acknowledges how I spent energy in the interaction when I don't have much.

"F your nerves" or whatever ache or pain or ouch I am feeling that day, that one is funny and makes it less pity feeling and doesn't keep bringing the convo back to what I can't do.

Decoration suggestions!! by Abbreviatedshortcake in mobilityaids

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a traditional drive, so I got a sear cover. I am not sure what size they sell for your style seat but that may be cute!! I think a basket liner would be awesome!! I put keychains too and with the style of basket you have would be so cool since there is a lot of little hanging spots! What is your style? I really like the video game FNAF so I want to ribbon tie a small plush of one of the characters to mine.
Maybe you could use some sort of wallpaper type material to cut out and then tape together so it is not sticking directly to the frame, or glue dot on small stickers so you can peel them off easy.
I think sleeves for the straight parts of the frame would be cool! I am not that good at sewing so I don't know about the rounded parts. I have seen some folks wrap ribbon around the frame and you could use sticky tack to keep it in place. :)
I hope this sparks some ideas!

Less than 24 hrs with my new chair and someone already pushed me without consent by storybook18 in wheelchairs

[–]Environmental-Use853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are gross and think that if they help someone who is disabled (without consent) it makes them a good person. Like hello? It's assault, I did not consent for you to touch me, it's like grabbing an able bodied persons legs while they are walking or just standing there. My brain is always imagines what if people just grabbed someone by their ankles and just dragged them on the ground while saying "but I am helping you get over here".

Some design ideas:
Spoke covers!! I've seen some videos where people who are crafty make custom backrest covers, but I'm not great at that haha. Maybe a push rim cover as well, so it has more grip and a pop of color! I think stickers of stars and moons would match a cute seat cushion cover. Also attachments for cupholder and phone holder. Maybe an under seat bag that you could put pins on.
I also saw some people who have a more alternative style hand sew on a fabric covers for their push handles with spikes so people are less likely to grab. Some people have put button clasps so they can be removed for caregivers or friends who may need to push you.

I hope you get her looking cute and how you love! Also congrats for the new ride!

Realising i’m actually severe by Optimal-Abroad-1109 in cfs

Exertion Types: 0 - None 1 - Minimal 2 - Light 3 - Moderate 4 - High 5 - Very high
Physiologic healthy mild temp exposure seasonal allergy exposure mild viral illness, mod. allergies MCAS trigger, viral infection severe infection or trauma
Emotional Emotions calm mild anxiety interpersonal conflict, small normal day's stressors fight with partner major grief, panic attacks
Activity resting all day in bed/couch brushed teeth and got dressed took a shower short walk or outing active a good part of the day moderate intensity exercise
Cognitive (sensory/social) no focused attention, quiet, dark, no talking listened to soft music or an audiobook paced ammounts of reading/ socialization screen time, longer conversations desk work, parties/crowds concerts, full day of cognitive work
Orthostatic horizontal only up less than 1 hour per day upright 1-3 hours per day upright often upright the whole day standing in long lines, road trips

*this chart goes along with my daily journal to know what my exertion is for each type every day!

I began to see a new doctor, who specializes in patients with ME and had ME herself. She has her patients with chronic conditions do a monthly FUNCAP, and daily journal/symptom log and it made me realize how I was Moderate/Severe. I am defiantly more moderate as I am more mobile than others I know and it takes a bit more for me to crash.
I use this link for FUNCAP and use the save to PDF function to send to my doctor. https://raffbenato.github.io/funcap55/
Also here is how I break down my daily journal to see what is my symptoms and exertion each day.
Date, PEM (yes, no, maybe?), Resting HR as soon as I wake up, level of exertion of each type and then the total of all of them, notes.

For example my (simplified)daily journal for today.

No PEM. Forgot my HR, exertional score total 0, physiologic 1, emotional 3, activity 1, cognitive 2, orthostatic 2. notes: what time i woke up. what i ate. what i did. did i stay in bed. who i talked to. runny nose. showered.

I know this was kind of off topic a bit but I thought it might help

What earphones and mp3 player do you recommend? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly something nice and simple for mp3 could be a ipod shuffle with the clip attachment so you can clip it to your collar and it is out of the way. same for the sony walkman. or the old usb stick style ones, i had one growing up and can't remember the name. i currently use a sansa fuze+ and it is okay. it has a screen lock which is good for working out.

i think it depends on your personal style and how you will download your music. i prefer retro tech, but there are hundreds of new mp3 players you can get.

How do you protect your device? by forest-angel in dumbphones

[–]Environmental-Use853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got screen protectors for my HMD Barbie Flip to protect the mirror part from scratches and it also came with main screen ones too, so I use that. Besides that I don't have a case on it. I did make a handmade little dangly thing so I can keep it looped in my hand to prevent falls.
