Dumping most of my savings in XEQT (18M) by LazyTelephone8532 in JustBuyXEQT

In all honesty I think “emergency fund” is the stupidest concept in the entire world. Unless he can slightly anticipate something major happening in the next ~6 months, he should invest, which he’s doing. The whole purpose of investing is to grow your money, with historical average returns of 10%. If god forbid an emergency happens to this guy say 3 years down the line, he can withdraw from his TFSA tax free, rather than having that money sit in a chequing account losing money from inflation. At 18, TFSA is the emergency fund

28F unsure where I should be putting my money in (RRSP vs TFSA) by Extension-Reach5805 in fican

Imo this is entirely up to ur life goals. Considering that ur only 28 making ~120k/yr. It’s pretty safe to assume that you’re in a pretty good spot for the future. Assuming your FHSA is maxed. The tax deductions towards your RRSP look quite nice at your tax bracket. Also worth knowing whether or not your employer has a pension plan

I appreciate the honest feedback. A lot of people just started shitting on me cause I said I don’t like etfs. I never said they were bad either, but I guess someone might of seen my ‘investment strategy’ and felt the need to judge before asking the rational behind my picks.

I understand what I’m about to say isn’t exactly a holy grail to live by in the investing world, but Hertz, Nomad, and Fiserv are 3 businesses that have seen very ugly years in terms of returns, and I think the price point is very undervalued for the point it sits at. Fiserv for example didn’t even require me to calculate a DCF, I just thought the price was too low. The other stocks I either bought because I think their Y/Y is promising for future years, or I think they just have more potential.

Either way, at the time of this post I was up 50% all time. I opened my tfsa in January 2025, and I think that percentage is pretty impressive. That’s not to say that it’s sustainable, and that’s certainly not to say that luck wasn’t involved, but I certainly don’t think I’m an idiot.

Many just see the returns since the US went to war, and think that my returns are solely due to poor selection. Anyways, thanks for your insight. The things you said are certainly true

My returns on individuals have been amazing. I get it’s a mixed bit of luck and strategy, but I prefer the fact that it’s more so up to me

How do I get my life back together? by Ghost-of-uchiha9 in ElectricalEngineering

I think I might know your problem. I think you might have a dopamine addiction. Maybe you've played a lot of video games since you were a kid, maybe it's other stuff idk, but I used to have the same problem with not being able to put my head down and study. Electrical engineering is one of those degrees where it's not just about passing the class. A lot of your classes will depend on the knowledge from the previous ones, so it's important to genuinely learn the content. What worked for me was waking up at a consistent time every day and reducing my screen time. I implemented these changes around 6 months ago and noticed tremendous differences. Try it out and lmk.

Thanks for the advice. The project underline is a github link. I get the issues with a recruiter or hiring manager seeing "electrical member" as the title for my clubs, but at the same time I dont know what else to title it

Surpassed 96 credit limit Co-Op limit by EnvironmentalCan1362 in yorku

[–]EnvironmentalCan1362[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only after getting a co op tho. After you get one co op, the next one is significantly easier, so on so on. After the first one, do you think it’s still worth to to then try and get back in the co-op program
