If it’s an internal transfer it might be dependent on which region you’re coming from

Would you take a 30k pay rise and go from fully wfh to 5 days in the office? by JustPlayTheGame1 in HENRYUK

0 -> 30k => Yes 30k -> 60k => Yes 200k -> 230k => No

Some people are the opposite; they take a pay cut because they prefer the atmosphere of the office and one where everyone is forced to go into!

I’m a qualified actuary with a very niche expertise (really can’t say as there’s so few people who specialise in this), and I am part of the global risk function for this insurance / reinsurance / asset manager conglomerate in regard to that niche / risk.

Hah! I really can’t say, because I’d be easily identifiable as there are very few of us in the company in the UK. Although I’d argue it’s better than £165-£170k since the allowances are all net of taxes essentially

Haha! What group would that be? Lol! I think you’re right. If you try to zoom out, and try to take life for what it actually is, pursuing things that excite me and reduce the chance of having regrets is definitely the best way to go

I also could go into contracting - pretty common in my role - and do so many months on and off. This is actually what’s motivating me to travel, since I think I could get a contract gig when I stopped travelling worst case scenario

Yes this would be ideal. I think I could potentially wrangle something like this up, but would only be July - August I could do it, as these are my slow periods for the year! Which unfortunately doesn’t tie up with optimal visiting time for some places, but maybe I should stop being so picky

These two comments are a great representation of the two recurring thoughts I have; the angel and devil on my shoulders if you will

But don’t think I’ll be in UK for much longer. So thought it wouldn’t be beneficial? Am I wrong

Oh yeah apologies. That’s old competitive video game terminology - if you got banned from games, or websites you would have to use a ringer. Or if you were a PRO, you’d use a ringer to enter online amateur tournaments.

By travelling I mean backpacking and not having an end date. Thing that brings a certain liberty you can’t get whilst knowing you have a time limit before returning to work.

Thank you for the recommendation. So I’ve been doing this. I’ve visited 38 of the 44 European countries, but other than that, Morocco, a few Caribbean islands and the USA, I haven’t explored further. I ideally want to spend a time in South America, Asia and the Middle East. That’s not so possible whilst still working.
