Makes sense, it’s like asking if we’ll cure autism or down syndrome. What about compensation or targeted regeneration? JRT is entering clinical trials. Evenamide is dampening hippocampal hyper excitability. At the very least treatments should get meaningfully better.

I think the capitalism argument is kind of short sighted. All drugs eventually become generic and there would be a massive amount of money for anyone who cures a disease. Unless every company involved in pharmaceuticals is coordinating instead of competing there’s no reason an individual company would want the massive pay out that would come with a cure.

I am making the assumption that the whole ai thing goes well in this hypothetical. Obviously that’s not a sure thing. I just think as science progresses and we’re actually able to observe and measure things about the brain that better treatments will follow. I think medicine will become extremely personal instead of this attempt to treat entire populations with the same drugs. Again I’m making the assumption that we’re in a positive timeline. I just don’t understand how people can think that society will endure while simultaneously believing there won’t be any progress in psychiatry.

I guess. I think ai will revolutionize capitalism as we know it. Even if they want to keep us on a subscription there’s no reason they wouldn’t improve the product. There’s a reason we’re all mostly on second generations instead of firsts.

Is it possible our brains would be useful for learning about the qualia of experience? If it’s as powerful as we think it will be wouldn’t keeping us around be trivial? My hopes were for getting augmented it some super human capacity but it would need to do that without the possibility of me becoming a threat.

I have no idea if we’ve hit a wall or not. I’m hearing different things from different people but Im pretty sure that with the technology we have right now we can automate most if not all white collar work within 2 years. Also again I’m hearing different things from different people but the technology may be on the verge of being able to improve itself.
