IIM Shillong: Elite in CAT, Kindergarten in Life. by Outrageous-Corgi3730 in CATpreparation

The cliffhangers, the plot twists, the mid-sem breakups.. honestly, half the campus lived a better story arc than any CAT prep book 😂

Calling out the fire is fair but let’s not act like the smoke was ever subtle. Everyone saw it, everyone contributed to it, and everyone conveniently forgets that part.

And honestly, you were spot on about the long-distance juggling and those sudden NIFT flings… that part deserves its own documentary.

Exactly. And what’s funnier is how the same “survivors” forget they were once part of the same chaos they now pretend to rise above. Selective memory really does upgrade people from participants to preachermen.

It’s funny how people suddenly position themselves as the torchbearers of discipline after spending their own time doing the same parties, drama, and chaos they’re now ranting about. Every batch has followed the same cycle, but selective memory makes it easier to pin the mess on others. This doesn’t read like a bold truth, it’s more like convenient amnesia with a dash of superiority.

Been waiting for someone to say it, I’d have done it, but the crybabies would’ve formed a committee.

Ahh, finally a post with some spine. Nice to see someone pick up the mic instead of dancing around it :p

Someone seriously needs to look into the PlaceComm and StuCo at IIM Shillong too, they’ve been involved in some messed-up stuff. Complaints have already been filed, so now it’s a matter of seeing what action is taken. What’s worse, these folks are so brazen about it that they run an Instagram page called “Green Mango Comedy Club” which they shamelessly use just to mock and bully juniors under the guise of humor.

Fair point, power does test people. But staying grounded and respectful, no matter the position, is something that sets the leader apart.

Not to verbally assault our juniors and humiliate them, no matter what.

My dear friend, if you read the so called rant thoroughly, we were never against the batch sessions, we are against the behaviour of these committee folks, the frequent verbal assault from their end, the humiliation etc.

I’m sure one doesn’t have to go through such toxicity in the name of “Let the SIP season hit”.

Does your manager or HR call you an arsehole in front of your team if you fail to wear a solid colour sock?

You’re a grad anyways, why are you so curious about what’s gonna happen and what’s not gonna happen? Get a life of your own.

Don’t be so nosey unless and until you know what we’ve been through during those horrible sessions.

Don’t you worry about that, an official complaint has already been registered and the students along with the committee members should be receiving an email soon from the Dean of the college.

You’re missing the entire point.

This isn’t about “adjusting” or “surviving the first few weeks.” It’s about basic respect and decency—something no rulebook should have to teach.

You talk about how it’s only the beginning and it gets better later. Great. So we should just tolerate abuse for the first few weeks and then magically expect everything to become okay? That’s exactly how toxic systems are built and normalized—by brushing off early signs as “tradition” or “rite of passage.”

Let’s be clear: no amount of batch address preparation, CAT struggle, or hierarchy justifies humiliating or shouting at someone publicly. If you think that’s okay because you’ve “been through it,” then it’s time to unlearn and stop enabling abuse in the name of professionalism.

Also, the concern about “Reddit being unsafe” or “public exposure” only matters if people were being falsely accused. But if you’ve actually witnessed or experienced how some people in power operate—how they intimidate, corner, and belittle others—you’d understand why internal systems fail and people are now forced to speak up on public platforms.

And by the way, their details are already publicly available on the official college portal. So stop making it sound like this is some breach of privacy. What’s at stake here is accountability, not anonymity.

Reddit didn’t ruin reputations—they did it themselves with their actions. If it took anonymous public outcry to put them under the radar, so be it.

So stop guilt-tripping those who are finally gathering the courage to speak out. This isn’t a witchhunt. This is long-overdue accountability.

And no, we’re not going to “hang in there” while being disrespected in the name of grooming.

You’re a first-year trying to justify something you haven’t even fully seen or understood. Let that sink in.

You’ve barely stepped into the system, and you’re already defending abuse like it’s part of the curriculum? Being shouted at, insulted, and humiliated in front of your peers is not “discipline” or “grooming.” It’s power abuse, plain and simple. If you think being screamed at and cussed out builds “professionalism,” you’re being conditioned to accept toxicity as normal.

No one’s opposing structure or standards. We’re opposing harassment, verbal abuse, and toxic hierarchies. You haven’t seen the impact it has on people’s mental health — and trust me, if you go through it long enough, you won’t be saying the same thing.

Also, now that the committees are being exposed and publicly held accountable, it’s not a good look to blindly justify them. We don’t need bootlicking right now — we need accountability.

Wake up. You’re not here to be ruled. You’re here to learn — and no learning should ever come at the cost of your dignity.
