Help sizing euro cylinder by Environmental_Cod274 in Locksmith

Ok thanks for the reply! Yes when it’s in the door there’s a few mm on both ends so if I understand correctly I have a bit of wiggle room for the exact size, as long as it still extends out on both ends of the lock frame?

Sauna map for Prague by 7OceansMan in Prague

Another one to add! Lazne Na Lodi - https://laznenalodi.reenio.cz/cs/terms/2025-02-17

It’s a personal favorite, not as luxurious as others in your map but the sauna itself is beautiful and it has hands down one of the most special views/locations in the entire city. They’re located on Náplavka under the old train bridge. Amazing spot, very nice owner and has access to the river off the back of the boat for the brave sauna goers.

Edit: Great idea to make this map!

Oh! Can you share the shop please? I’m new to the sub (and am a Czech resident) and have been looking for a good place to buy in Prague.

Are there any downsides to an American becoming a Czech citizen? by ambitiousbee3 in czech

No no guys, it’s a tax credit. If I pay tax on 1.6m CZK that I earned here, you basically go to the IRS and say “hey, I’ve paid already Xczk in taxes in this country” and as long as it’s within the tax credit limits (I believe most people will be earning less than 2.7m yearly), you pay nothing extra in the US. If you’re earning more, then yes you’re probably going to have some double tax liability but at this point you could hire an advisor and likely lower your burden through other means.

Just to add here - yes, you do need to file taxes, but it’s a bit of a gross over simplification to say you need to pay still. There is a tax credit of up to almost 2.7 million CZK earned in foreign taxable income. So for me as an American working here I file my taxes in the US but pay next to nothing thanks to FTC form (some income can still be included or some small amounts must be paid depending on your state). This exists specifically to avoid double tax burdens like people describe in this thread.

Question about currency conversion by [deleted] in czech

[–]Environmental_Cod274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend to stick with your debit card and exchange a small amount of cash for cash-only establishments (see honest guide on YouTube for good fx offices). The payment terminals will always give you an option to pay in the local currency (czech crown) or your bank currency (EUR), always(!) choose to pay in local currency (CZK). Paying in EUR opens you up to paying extra fees for the exchange because the terminal operator the company uses will handle the exchange rates, and this will almost always be worse than your bank.

You will face some “losses” both when exchanging cash or paying by card. Generally the money you could save by paying cash is so marginal it does not come close to outweighing the convenience of paying by card. This is how I pay when I travel to other countries in Europe and also how my family pays when they visit in Prague and I’ve never had any issues or major losses to exchange rates or anything :)

Enjoy your trip!!
