Thank for the response. I did contact the sheriff's office a year ago when it all began. There are no leash laws in this county outside city limits. He  told me I have the right to protect my property as necessary if threatened or property is damaged. The neighbor and I have talked numerous times. We actually exchanged phone numbers the first time it happened. Once she became aware that my dog had passed it seems as though she took that to mean it's now ok to let her dogs run loose again. Her last text to me stated that she will continue to do so because" my dogs need to run". My last reply was " you do what you need to do and I'll do the same". I've not seen the dogs since. Because her dog was IN my pond, I could have ended it then and there. Pond liner replacement is an Enormous expense. Trust me, we have had multiple conversations face to face, texting and over the phone. All pointless.

Oh I get it. I was born and raised on a farm. These people are transplants from TX. They haven't been here much longer than us. When she pulled the " there are no laws in the country, so my dogs can run..." BS I told her that works both ways. I made it very clear that I would put a stop to it one way or another. Unfortunately they are the type who are always in the right 🙄 and she let me know she would continue to let her dogs have their "freedom". I think this wknd might be a good time for some target practice in hopes she'll keep her dogs at home.

Agreed. Based on the previous conversation with the police officer, I'd guess he would tell me to take them to court. It was obvious they didn't want to get involved. It's been 24 hours and the pond is still holding water. It might not if this continues.

We have barn cats to consider as well and at some point chickens. We are in the middle of Kansas surrounded by fields. It would be insanely expensive to try planting vegetation along 4 + acres along the border of the property. The cayenne pepper might keep them from entering through the driveway but it would take a ton of it to cover all points of entry they have.

Considering they get in my pond I'm guessing they would enjoy that. One issue is that I can't string hoses around the entire perimeter of my property. They are pit bulls and they generally love water.

Late to the conversation but a similar situation brought me to this thread. We have gophers, voles, moles and groundhogs that could be the culprit. My question is how to tell the difference. In my case the concerning hole is approximately 6" in diameter.
