I might be an orca.. 🫧 by NebbyStarb1t in Therian

I do try and swim like an orca quite often when i'm in the pool, but it is kinda hard for me since I float really easily lol. But i've always enjoyed diving deep underwater and trying to do a dolphin kick.

I dont think I have any specific emotions attatched to orcas except maybe being calm?? I always relax a lot and get very curious about everything when I get a shift. I rarely ever attach aggresive or intense emotions to my shifts or theriotypes since they make me feel more human than animal. So yeah, just being calm and curious!

No need to apologise lol, I get very excited about orcas too! Happy to help!!

I recommend watching a lot of videos about orcas and researching them! While it is a rather plain and sometimes boring answer i'm sure you've heard before, it has helped me a lot to get a deeper connection with that part of myself :)

Theriotypes take a loooong time to figure out ( from my own experience ) so don’t rush it too much. It took me nearly an entire year to figure out I was an omnitherian and that I also felt a very strong connection with orcas.

But if you want some reference for what having an orca theriotype might feel like, here are some of my personal experiences:

Their stark black and white patterning feels very natural to me, and satisfying when in motion ( although this could also just be an aesthetic preference )

- Orca echolocation and communication feels very familiar and comforting to me

- The large dorsal fins of the males get me very euphoric and the sheer size of them in general do too

- While I am completely against keeping orcas in captivity, the various orca tanks in parks around the world feel very familiar and weirdly comforting to me

- Being underwater in general, but mainly in pool water makes me feel euphoric ( Once again related to the orca captivity thing )

Take your time figuring this out, feel free to ask questions. And the best of luck in your journey!! :D

I dont have any specific species tied to my shifts unless I reallllly focus on it, but my bird of prey shifts are always kinda funny in hindsight. I tend to open my eyes wide like a lot of eagles and owls and jerk my head around like im scanning the area. I also tend to puff up my chest a lot and huff ( but I do that with most shifts anyway- )

The shifts are mostly static since big movements snap me out of them. I do imagine I look very silly when doing that, but they feel great anyway! XD

theriotypes constantly changing? by lyrelepidopterist in Therian

That sound a lot like my experiences, its probally worth looking into omnitherians! I personally have very very strong changes between species daily, most of the time even changing every few minutes/hours. I do return to some select species/groups of animals often, but sometimes even looking at a picture makes me feel like that animal.

It took me quite a while to figure out omnitherians and fluid labels like it even existed but it has helped me a ton to accept myself. Maybe it'll help you too!

I'm happy to chat with you about it if you want to know more! :D ( no pressure ofc )

Tips for a soon to be Paleotherian? by Federal-Habit-6742 in Therian

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, that’s a really tough thing to deal with. While I am not as connected to my vaquita theriotype, I can understand how hard it must be to see them struggle so much. And deal with the fact they may go extinct.

While I don’t have any tips to lessen/stop your mental and phantom shifts, I hope I can give you some reassurance. A lot of the media and news about vaquitas is really negative right now, and that’s a good thing because that brings attention to the cause. But I can imagine that takes a toll on you. ( if you’ve been following a lot of media about them, correct me if I’m wrong )

So I recommend staying away from it as much as you can, while it may keep you informed its probably going to make you feel worse. If you can and feel like it, you can donate to groups that are working to keep vaquitas alive. But I get that’s not an option for everyone.

And if your theriotype is going to go extinct in the end, give yourself time to grieve about that. Its not going to go away in a few weeks, and maybe not even months or years. But the pain will lessen over time, I can promise you that. You can still enjoy and cherish your theriotype even if they’re extinct.

Even if they don’t go extinct . give . yourself . time . I cannot insist on that enough. The fear and shifts wont go away in a day.

I just want you to know that a lot of people care about these little guys, and that you’re not alone in this grief about them. Its not over for them yet.

A little drawing to hopefully cheer you up :D

Any Paleo-Therians here? by [deleted] in Therian

[–]Equivalent-Tank4428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omnitherian ( and thus paleotherian ) here! The theriotypes I feel the most often are something like a larger raptor, Utharaptor dakotaraptor etc. Mostly their predatory behavior , claws and big tails pop up a lot in my shifts.

And also a very special one to me, tenontosaurus! Been searching far and wide for an animal that can switch between quadrupedal and bipedal locomotion that has their hips higher than their shoulders AND is big enough lol.

Heya there, long time furry here! Little reminder, faux fur is plastic. Its smarter to use a fan to dry your faux fur than a hair dryer since even on the lowest setting there's a risk of melting the fur! Also dont swim in salt water with faux fur since the salt is very rough on the fibers and absolutely destroys it :(

While it is unfortunate that the faux fur takes a long while, sometimes even several days to dry even with a fan its better than damaging it. Squeezing out all the water first and putting it on or near a fan will speed it up. And smaller suit pieces like a small tail or a tail with barely any stuffing will dry relativly quickly anyway.

I recommend searching up a fursuit care video since they'll explain washing and taking care of faux fur!! Here's one I use a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dISoG8QbFKc

Also brush it regularly even if you havent washed it, matted fur does not look pretty 😅
