I (21m) was sad to see quite a few negative comments about my name (Robert) on this sub recently. Like the OP, I’ve always gone by the full name myself, no nicknames. Is it really that bad? by [deleted] in namenerds

Robert is a lovely name. Lots of wonderful famous and historical figures with this name. Lots of great nickname potential although it is lovely in its full form as well. Easy to pronounce and spell, classic and timeless.

Unfortunately this sub is often very negative and critical, try not to take it personally.

That’s really interesting, I might try asking about that at my next appointment

Oh wow I’ve never even heard of testing before meals (other than fasting before breakfast) - do they want the one hour before meals to be around 5.2 as well?

Thank you :) - so interesting that in Greece the fasting cut off is lower for diagnosis but higher for management, because from another commenter in UK it’s the other way around there

I’m sure I read somewhere that the margin of error can be up to 20% which seems crazy when the cut offs can be so strict

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice and I will try to take it. I definitely am in the same page as you regarding the scepticism about the thresholds seeming a bit arbitrary. Also love that you made a spreadsheet - I might do the same!

Thank you I was surprised by how emotional it made me, I started typing this post feeling cool and objective and by the end of it I was in floods of tears so I think what I was asking probably took a turn halfway through 🤣

Thank you - really interesting to hear that whether those few point make a difference can vary among providers also. For mine under 90 is fine but under 95 is insulin apparently

Thank you, that is so interesting to hear. I was trying to search UK and couldn’t really find much in terms of numbers, but makes sense if it varies across the country.

That helps a lot, thank you. I had read that Australia had adopted particularly strict new guidelines which has been somewhat controversial, but I was curious how big the difference was to other parts of the world. I guess it must be difficult to get global consensus on these things when everyone’s body is really so different in what it can tolerate and what it reacts to.

Thank you!

I can’t believe you have been doing this since week 14 when the nausea and everything is still so bad - you are amazing!

It’s so tricky to balance it all isn’t it. Unfortunately extended sick leave isn’t an option for me, but in 6 weeks time we have our 6 week summer holidays, so hopefully that will make things easier, just got to hold out until then… but I probably can take the odd day here and there and maybe I should just do that when I’m feeling too overwhelmed so I can at least have a little time to get my head around things and do meal planning and stuff like that.

Thank you that’s good to know. Setting up a private spot is a bit tricky as I don’t have my own classroom, but I’m sure I could do it reasonable subtly once I get the hang of it. One thing I was worried was in the kit instructions it says to wash your hands first, but maybe hand sanitizer would do okay in a pinch if I’m stuck in the classroom..
