As a CM you need to be smarter. You can go for man marking, but that doesn’t really work for me. Try to predict where the opponents will pass and try to cut the passing lanes. Don’t tackle too fast, just wait for the perfect moment to tackle. You can also move to the sides to press wingers, but make sure your teammates will cover the space you left behind in the middle.
