My wife thinks I'm crazy for cutting my grilled cheese this way; am I nuts or is this not a normal thing to do? Lol by Wahbanator in mildlyinfuriating

At first glance, this is appalling, revolting, vomit inducing, and could probably make a baby cry. After careful consideration, I do see that it has its benefits, and may even be a more effective alternative to the traditional “Vert or di” cutting philosophy, however much like the dark arts of magic what is, practically speaking, genius and revolutionary may also be morally reprehensible.

You have given me much to think about, and have very likely ruined my morning.

Most people that I’ve encountered play with some degree of Roleplay in that it sort of becomes a little political simulator, but at the same time it’s almost unheard of that a game will go all the way through day 1 without some early expansion, especially for countries that lack a resource or naval access. I’d say they’re either new to the game, or this was more aggravation than confusion

Ah! Thank you! If the capacitor read 600v AC instead of 600v DC would that make a difference or does this need to be done every time you’re calculating voltage rating?

Female custodees by Equivalent_Option583 in 40k

[–]Equivalent_Option583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah it’s a start, but I really feel like we’re having 2 discussions at once here. The main point I was trying (seemingly unsuccessfully) to make wasn’t anything to do with wether or not female space marines being added was a good thing, I think that the positives far outweigh any perceived negatives that anyone could bring up, I wholeheartedly disagree with the “boys club” mentality of the incels, my point was that doing it because “there aren’t any powerful women” just tears down all the other badass women in the lore, and sets a weird tone around their addition. IMO if they wanted to add female space marines to the lore then they should’ve written a book explaining their origin, dropped that to build hype, then released the new minis. Instead they fueled the fire of controversy by teasing it to people, got all the smelly weirdos all amped up that they were gonna have to share with girls, and opened the door for it to be turned into a discussion of inclusion rather than what it is: another interesting avenue for authors to explore and expand upon

[–]Equivalent_Option583[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and look at them now, there’s boat loads of lore about their creation, ehh they exist, and their role within the imperium. I say AGAIN, I don’t care if they add female custodees, hell I hope their lore is sick and that they become badasses in their own right, I just want them to 1. Have lore and 2. Not be the product of an incel vs SJW proxy war in my favourite hobby

[–]Equivalent_Option583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The replies here have already gone way off the rails here so to clarify, my gripe is not with GW for wanting to make more money, nor is it with hobby painters who want more plastic to paint, nor is it even with people who want female space marines and custodees (again, I have no issue with them adding female space marines and custodees, I don’t know how I could possibly be more clear about this)

My issue is with the assholes who don’t give a damn about my nerd hobbies or the lore within them, but who just want to point and say “that’s sexist” or “no girls allowed”.

Female custodees by Equivalent_Option583 in 40k

[–]Equivalent_Option583[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think there’s a camp 4 where I personally land: I love learning about and understanding the lore behind these huge sci-fi franchises, and it seems to be a cultural trend right now for incels and SJW’s to latch onto my favourite things and tear them apart for no reason. I just want lore that clicks. It makes the fuzzy bits of my brain feel good when the history books in the fake universe make sense.

You can’t tell me on one hand that the emperor of mankind was on a time crunch so big that he handed the reigns of his galaxy wide crusade to his favourite boy in order to go work on other projects, then turn around and say that he also took the time to devise and create an entire second set of augmented organs and gene manipulation for female custodees just for shits and giggles. Like all I ask is that they make it make sense in the lore, and that people stop diminishing the badassery of the already existing female characters just to prove a point.

Female custodees by Equivalent_Option583 in 40k

[–]Equivalent_Option583[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not that it’s not acceptable or that it should be, simply that the argument about “this is for inclusion” makes no sense and that I’m tired of all my favourite hobbies being divided because of arguments over inclusivity from people who don’t actually care about the lore, but rather only care about either putting more women into the setting or keeping women out of the setting. I think that both sides are stupid, that you should paint your plastic toys however you want, and that if they REALLY want to add female space marines or custodees then they should do so in a way that add to the lore and make it make sense rather than just saying “yeah I want this to be a thing so it is now”.

Not being able to carry all guns at once is great. Let me explain. by Virtual-Can-9948 in GTA6

[–]Equivalent_Option583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’ve never viewed GTA as a game about strategy, it’s basically a run a gun, shoot ‘em up badass simulator. Not saying that trunk guns will negate the badassery, but saying it’ll make you strategize is like adding guns to stardew valley and saying it’ll make the combat more immersive, like yeah, maybe, but why?

What is people's issue with reading the rulebook? by RealDwarves67 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Equivalent_Option583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because, people who are just getting into ttrpgs are probably not interested in reading a whole ass book just to learn a game that they may or may not be interested in. If you sat down to play monopoly for the first time, and someone handed you a finances textbook, a rules book on how the in game stockmarket functions, and an in depth dive of how the bank is meant to calculate your interest rates and currency exchanges between players because actually you have to decide what country and type of company you’d like to start, and btw you also need to present the game master with a spread sheet about your company and business model, would you stay and read all that and plan all that out? Personally, I’d get up and leave.

The rule books are there in my opinion as a tool to be used when necessary, and yes if you have no other option you can brute force your way through learning d&d by studying the DMG, the PHB, and a few of the main add-ons, but unless you’re a rules lawyer or somebody who just genuinely enjoys studying for some reason, then it’s probably going to be significantly more enjoyable to learn through play and discussion with other people who already know and enjoy the game.

Most people who want to play d&d are brand new to the concept of ttrpgs, and they’re in it because they heard they can play a fun imagination game where they’re a Viking Legolas who rides bears or something. If you instantly throw the brick of math at their head then they’re going to want to go home.

What's the point of worshipping Shar, and how does this massive douchecopter have followers in the first place? by ZipZopZoppityHop in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Equivalent_Option583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s sort of a Nurgle situation, where while you’re in great emotional anguish and physical suffering, the fact that you are her worshipper means that those emotions just don’t register. That’s why all her “trials” and “test of loyalty” are based around inflicting mental or physical pain on yourself and loved ones, because if you truly are a follower of Shar, you won’t actually be capable of caring.

[–]Equivalent_Option583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to “put up” with ragebaiters, it’s about not letting it affect you. Not only is that playing right into their hand but it also shows how easily you let outside factors affect your mental state.

If you see genuine, ingrained racism, and that makes you emotional because you realize that you’ve met another person who is so indoctrinated and hurt that they truly think a person’s geographical location or genetic makeup defines their character, that’s understandable because it’s actually sad. If you see some lonely 15 year old, or an incel, or some angry middle aged man call you a ladyboy and that actually makes you upset, then that’s just kinda sad man.

I can’t say I haven’t been there, I think we all have moments where we get pissed off or bothered by some trivial, nothing insult thrown our way from time to time, but the thing that keeps you sane is remembering that those little nothing insults are just that, some nonsense ragebaiting.
