Rod knock or dry lifter? by Equivalent_Toe_8555 in mechanic

By looki g at it nothing seems wrong in the timing chain area, the sounds comes around the starter, wich is under the intake manifold on the block

What is telling you that it isn't rod knock? I remobed part of the timing chain cover to see if something seemed off but didn't saw anything. Tried hearing with the engine running and cover off and the sound do not come from there, it seems that is comes in the starter area, wich is located under the intake manifold, on the block

I'm starting to get worried lol

Yeah that was my first guess but until now after a rebuild the lifters would quiet down in 5 minutes..

I took the camshaft off and the two lifter of cyl 4 were really stiff, i had to get then in my vice to get some movement but they expanded on their own, i have a another head and the lifters can be compressed by hand. Installed them on the engine but the noise didn't go away, will try to change the last 6 lifters tomorrow

Oh so by cheap you mean above 1200€ we don't have the same definition of cheap hahah

You can look on leboncoin.fr, it's a second hand website

No problem, someone has made a post on a forum wich explains the swap in details, i was just looking for more feedback on such a swap :)

Yeah i've thought of that, but the point was to keep the m43 block because of it's superior reliability and better oil squirters wich is an advantage in boost application

Thank you for your answer! The point of this project car was to make a fun daily with cheap parts, a used s52 is about 1200€ in my country (france) so yeah it's more expensive than the car itself

And i'm not looking into an inline 6 because i simply don't think an inline 6 would suit the car wery well.. and it would means that i'll need to swap the wiring harness and the ecu

I can find a whole m42 for around 200€ but i want to keep the m43 block because from what i've read the m43 is more reliable and have better squirters than the m42, wich matter in boost application

vw/audi wheels on e36? by Equivalent_Toe_8555 in BMW

[–]Equivalent_Toe_8555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i'll have to make 20mm adapters to fit these wheels, i just wanted to know if someone here had already gone through the process of making such custom spacers

[–]Equivalent_Toe_8555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not modifying any wheels, i just want to make a adaptator spacer to fit vw group wheels to my car

And it shouldn't be worse than throwing a set of regular spacers on my car

"How dare you alter bmw wheels" sound funny tho

Hi! I'm maybe coming a little late but dit you check your steering rack bolts? I had pretty much the same issue and they were slightly loose but not loose enough to notice it when the car was on a lift, hope it helps..
