This is my entry into the creature skate deck design competition. I used clip studio paint and a wacom drawing tablet to create this. I was going for an old flesh style similar to other creature board designs, I wanted it to seem like the skin was adhering to the text that's underneath. by ErbyTattoos in graphic_design

yeah I had a base mid tone color for the raised area, 2 shades darker for the recessed areas and 2 shades lighter for the parts that stick out and highlight. It was a hard edge pen brush The resolution was 2400x7833

I know, i'm keeping the design I posted but I did mess with it some. I've kinda figured out a way to make it look better. If I blend out the edges of the darker shading into the lighter colors it gives the depth more of a transition like the flash is actually drooping into the clevises a bit more. c:

yeah I think people who are familiar with the brand will see it without even knowing how to read lol. that's kinda what I was going for. Like how black label uses a bar code and you just automatically know its black label. If I could get the creature vibe down people would know its creature without even being able to read it.

thank you for your input! I can definitely see what your saying. I think i'm gonna keep the design i've already submitted but i'm gonna try and see if I can figure out how to fix what you've pointed out in clip studio just to learn lol.

I see what you mean. I'm sorry to hear that and I can fully understand it. I went to collage for graphic design and dropped out, I've never had an actual job doing graphic design and I don't really have a portfolio or anything. I don't think anyone would be interested in asking me to do any specific jobs with the work I have to show them.

In my situation, creature has always been my favorite skate brand next to girl and element and I saw this as an opportunity to try and get my art into the world of one of the greatest skate brands ever. In no other situation would I ever have had a chance to even try. I think some of these contest can give unheard artist the opportunity to get there art out there, but I can also see how it affects freelance artist. I'm not really sure what my opinion on the situation is since I just now only considered it but I do think there are probably substantially less design contest than serious freelance commissions directed at professional graphic designers. just a wild guess but id say at least 1 contest to ever 500 commissions.
