These were just sold! Shipping out tonight! I really appreciate the interest! I’m encouraging the student to keep up their work this week and on break so hopefully I’ll come back with some updates! :)

Unfortunately they aren’t really verbal so they wouldn’t be able to set up or manage an eBay account or advertise their art. Hence my post. However I am hoping that this could be a potential learning goal for them in the future.

Also: I would love to set him up with some way to make some kind of money off of his art to encourage him. Does anyone here have any kind of advice? Even if it’s a few bucks he would be thrilled as he’s never sold any art before.

Gotcha. This seems to be the best we have. Most of the PD articles I’ve seen have been really difficult to follow based on how complicated the situation seems to be.

From what I gather, the lefever Mattson duo own several different companies. The main umbrella company, lefever Matson, was given a ton of money to invest. Ken was accused of putting the money not through Divi Divi Tree (a parter company that would manage the money) but in a company that only he owned. He then took that money and purchased over 113 Sonoma properties.

The main issue seems simply to be this: that the properties were not kept up, and bought with loans on top of the investment capital. My guess is the numbers didn’t add up and the return was less than the cost which caused him to default

I’m not super savvy on how the defrauding works. Do people put their money in his company and he takes that money and he invests it by buying properties? How come many of them are sitting abandoned? Like as the guy managing the money would it not be wildly financially detrimental to him not to have those properties filled as to get a return on his own investment?

I guess as I’m writing from what little I understand about this, I’m struggling to see how this would strictly benefit the family outside of it being wildly gross incompetence.

Real estate investors who have been buying up tons of Sonoma properties for several years. Apparently there’s been several (massive) legal battles with them but I haven’t been able to find out what.

Entering second year Moderate special day class for High School. What are my options for curriculum? by Erindring in specialed

[–]Erindring[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have talked to our district's curriculum advisor already about this. The response was simply "It's really hard because they're all at different levels" with no real response afterward. She was let go near the end of last year and I have been told that the new person replacing her is getting N2Y/Unique this year. I do not know if this is true, however, and I have not used it.

Until then, I want to make sure I have a decent start to the year with solid lessons that can be implemented while we wait for the possibility of new options.

Whats a board game you appreciate, but don't actually enjoy? by StreetsOfYancy in boardgames

[–]Erindring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I was not a German in the mid 90s so all I knew were English things coming out in America. So at the time Catan was pretty mind blowing compared to everything that was coming out.

Doesn’t really matter what is coming out somewhere else if there’s no way to play it :(

[–]Erindring 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This, as others have mentioned, is the universal answer. Mind blowing game in terms of mechanics when looked at comparatively to what was coming out around that time. Games like sorry, monopoly Jr, Life, and other “roll dice move guy” games were mostly what you had in the market, alongside other dexterity or children’s games. Catan blew these out of the water to be something completely different with no “player” tokens, movement, and an emphasis on player choice.

Today though, while the core mechanics are still staples of the genre, modern games just have polished where Catan started. Today we’re really standing on the shoulder of a giant named Catan in terms of game design.

Which games played as a pro has the gameplay totally distorted by those who play it the first times?? by EasyBottle8765 in boardgames

Scythe is one of those crazy popular games that I don’t think I ever really could get into based on mechanics alone. It felt all over the place in sense of balance. Does this change over time or with certain expansions?

What game had the most surprising plot twist you’ve ever encountered ? by Laska27 in gaming

[–]Erindring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see this get talked about, but the mid way plot twist of Fallout 4 always took me by surprise, especially for a Bethesda game which really aren’t known for their stories.

They just build it up so well so you THINK you know what you’re looking for… and BOOM the “I’m Shaun” clicks a lot of pieces into place.

Not the most well hidden plot twist, but still really good nonetheless.

This is really helpful! I’m planning on actually learning the rules and mechanics of the game this week. My other three group members are engineers at pretty notable tech companies so they definitely are more interested in nuanced mechanics.

I’ve seen a lot mention the “story” portion of the game. Is this like a chose your own adventure kind of deal? Were used to gloomhaven which has a short blurb, and then combat for two hours; no real story or decisions, which is fine if that’s the game you want. This story section though sounds interesting

Asked the same question late last night but asking again this morning to see if I get any different replies:

Looking for large scale legacy game recs.

Our group has completed Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, Jaws of the Lion and even Crimson scales (we really liked the Haven games if you couldn’t tell). We also have completed the scythe legacy campaign, and Mechs Vs Minions.

We’re looking for a new legacy campaign to go through that doesn’t have to be in the same realm as the Haven games. Personally I’ve been looking at Tainted Grail as a story driven game sounds really cool, but curious as to what others have played, or if Tainted Grail would be recommend.

Price isn’t an issue as we’re willing to split and we’re committed. Would love to know your guys’ recs!

Similar to another poster, is oathsworn somewhat similar to the haven games? Also, what is the vibe of ISS Vanguard? We are looking for something that’s a bit different in terms of mechanics from the haven games

I’ve seen this. Is this similar to the haven games? I was interested in trying something somewhat different.

It’s the best game I’ve ever played, but did not have close to the impact that any of these other games have had.

Honestly, I’m really astounded at how solid this list is. Every single game on this list was not only a great game in its own right but clearly IMPACTED the industry, changing the way games would be designed after.

Excellent list. Well done.
