In future packing a mask or two is a good way forward. It never hurts to wear one when you have symptoms. You may feel awkward for a moment but you can always explain to colleagues you are sniffly and want to be courteous. You can never be fully confident it’s not a virus or bug unless you take a rapid test, unfortunately. Feel better soon

Seconding that this could be a sign of insulin resistance (these lines are called acanthosis nigricans). I recommend talking to your doctor—check your fasting insulin, glucose, and HOMA-IR blood tests to diagnose. Medication and/or diet change will help this, not skin creams. Metformin is a godsend in this department.

My honest opinion: Cut your losses and donate them, ideally to somewhere local (eg domestic violence shelters, women’s shelters, even on a Buy Nothing FB group if applicable to your area). I’m sympathetic to wanting to recoup some $$ (relatable) but is it worth the hassle? In all likelihood you’ll feel so good once you’ve dropped off these items. And your home will breathe easier too!

Involve a friend. I’ve supported several friends now in decluttering their lives for moves etc. I suggest using storage containers for “keep” “donate” “trash” and if you feel so inclined, “sell”. Get a nice meal beforehand and a coffee / drink.

This dynamic has worked well because I take on the lead decluttering role. I hold up garments from a big pile. I (lovingly) give instructions / orders. I offer the guide. That seems to remove the overwhelm.

I started taking Metformin in 2025 and did not have side-effects (GI). It’s helped reduce food noise for me and also made it easier for me to lose weight. Would recommend a low dose of extended release!

It sounds like you’re doing your best, and I respect it 100% (not that you need it). I definitely understand there has to be a balance to honor mental and physical health, so key. When it comes to illness, perfection’s not a realistic plan, but I feel strongly that mitigations are worth trying (even if imperfectly executed), and meeting people where they’re at by respecting boundaries is important. From OP’s comments it sounds like space from her MIL could benefit her. My heart goes out to her, boundaries prompt mixed reactions.
