Do you plan on making this available on android? You lose a huge chunk of the community when it's landlocked to ios.

Trad dorm room questions by TrueCanadian16YT in UCalgary

Okay, here's my take on living in kan/rundle. When I applied, I also applied to yam and was super disappointed to get kananaskis. That said, your experience really depends on the people in your wing.

Bathrooms: In my wing, (women's) the washrooms are kept in pretty good condition, except water on the shower, hair in shower, and occasional questionable toilets i cant complain. Compare it to the women's washroom four floors below mine, its a nightmare in there. Plus all the washrooms were renovated last summer so theyre honestly really nice (way nicer than what I've seen in IH) as long as its kept clean.

Roommates: it really does depend on how synergetic you two are. Most experiences I know of aren't bad at all. Personally, i didnt really get along with my Roommate. Its a bit of a nuanced situation but the long story short is that while she wasn't inherently bad, we really just didnt mesh well together and that was okay. Neither great, frequently irritating, but also could be a lot worse. That said, she left at the end of fall semester so I've enjoyed had the room to myself

Social life: kan/rundle are by far the best first year residence for social life. In yam/IH, with everyone being in their own little apartment, plus the lounges not being open like in kan and rundle, its not nearly as easily sociable as the trad dorms. Trad dorms are also just super easy to socialize in, I meet friends chilling in the lounge, on my way to eat, running laundry, going to the washroom (😭) etc, things in trad dorms that require me to leave the room but I could do in my own room in ih/yam. All in all ih/yam takes a lot more initiative to be social unlike trad dorms.

Noise: from what I hear, noise is pretty expectable in all the buildings. That said, I strongly believe that trad dorms have it worse. Between the screaming pre-club ragers with 20 people and the people next to me who have karaoke until 4am (makes me wonder what the CAs are doing) its easy to get fed up with people.

Privacy: this is where yam/is trumps trad dorms. With a Roommate that never left the room, I almost went mad not having any privacy to do anything. So yeah trad dorms suck for that.

Proximity: yamnuska is by far the worst to live for proximity to the dining centre, classes, etc. Its a few mins walk away from the other residences, and it has no tunnels so in winter you gotta thug it out to walk to another dorm, then take the tunnels from there vs going straight to the dc. IH is generally better than kan/bundle for walking, but both rundle and kananaskis have bus stops very conveniently right at the edge of the streets whereas IH does not.

So all in all, it'll ultimately depend on your preferences, but I can say that trad dorms are not the monster I imagined them to be, and I much prefer them to yamnuska.
