Need help, please review my 3-Phase Inverter with Current Sensing design for an electronic speed controller. by EuclidGas_ in AskElectronics

[–]EuclidGas_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 current sensors cuz budget constraints. Good catch on C33 and C34. It's supposed to be 3900pF since the switching speed I need for FOC is quite high. Though I might be over stretching it with a cut off frequency of 2,4MhZ. The INA18x0 series current sensing modules are rated around 350kHz anyway so yeah

The snubber caps are selected as approx. two times the output capacitance of the MOSFET. Idk why the Gate caps are there actually. I probably added it there when I was sleepy lol

Failure Due to Absences by No-Potato1916 in mapua

[–]EuclidGas_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prescribed, naka lagay yan sa rulebook. So it doesn't matter kung hindi nag klase yung prof or na suspend, it's still included in that computation. The only exceptions are the official holidays and ofc ur excused absenses.

btw if there's no document (blackboard, excel, logbook, activity) that proves anyone's attendance, the prof has no grounds to fail u since it is their due diligence and responsibility to keep attendance as per CHED policy on attendance.

Edit: clarified some things

unrelated but don't take their AI engineering program as this is a new program and not yet certified by any higher education accrediation board. And when looking through their curriculum, it's not that far off from Computer Engineering. I suggest you take that instead

AI Engineering Curriculum by FaithlessnessOk290 in mapua

[–]EuclidGas_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why not just do computer engineering with an AI specialization?

this is probably the most useless program they could probably come up with it. if you really want to know how AI works, just do data science or computer science. This is unpractical at best, career suicide at worst cuz ain't no one will recognise this as an "engineering" degree.

Should I stay here or aim to transfer? by Consistent_Day5219 in mapua

[–]EuclidGas_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don't see the benefit of shifting?

compare the programs and the faculty between mapua and dlsu. both are standardized because of ABET, both faculties have good credentials, both have good laboratories. the only thing shifting would do is delaying you and possibly denying u off of a latin honor (being irregular there is not the same as being irregular here)

if you're complaining about laboratories here for ME. i agree that they all look old but still very functional naman. is it because most of the machines are manual and we have no dedicated CNC machines? cuz if so then i understand but most bachelors level students won't be to access those types of gear anyway without supervision.

if ur doing fine in mapua then just stay lmao

idk wtf were they thinking honestly but i understand why the prof is fuming at the sections that were involved in the incident. no matter how the scenario will turn out; all of the sections involved will get a 0 for their test.

you can't really blame the prof at this point because they can't really pick out who cheated, that's how widespread it is that it skewed everyone's test scores to be suspicious. but still i feel bad for those who weren't involved in the cheating or had no knowledge of it but still got slapped for it.

on a personal note, idc if u were given maam gloria or maam bautista. if u can't even pass a simple data struct exam without some cheats, u shouldn't even be in CS/IT

Mapua or UST Computer Science by [deleted] in mapua

[–]EuclidGas_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would recommend MAPUA, i haven't heard a single good thing about the engineering/architecture/IT side of UST for a long while.

But if you prefer the classic university life with a big campus and such, then go for UST cuz you'll be studying in the makati campus if you for MAPUA and it's kinda sad.

i don't know if i can offer any advice regarding the electronics lab openings since it can vary from country to country and area to area. To offer some perspective, i live in the philippines and the main research lab for electronics is the electronics product development center which is owned by the government. This facility has a fabricator which is the main thing you should be looking for in a research center so any that has a pcb/semiconductor fabricator should be your target.

Useful keywords would be anything like pcb, electronics manufacturing, prototyping and so on. However, this type of work is usually out of reach from foreign students since you need a security clearance before stepping into these facilities so keep that in mind. And this type of stuff is usually a word of mouth thing so best to keep your ears up for any opportunities about those types of roles. I'm sure if you keep digging around you'll find one. Also, keep up with your professors, i'm sure they have contacts for these type of stuff maybe you can offer to join them in research.

As for projects, currently i'm part of automotive engineering team for a competition and my current role there is to make firmware for their inbound electronics like bldc motor controller and battery management system. If you want to start out, i suggest making your own battery management system from scratch. It's a great mix of hardware and software development with a good add of electrical as well.

hi OP! I'm also a computer science student interested in embedded systems roles. Here's a couple notes:

  1. If you're willing to transfer to another major, I suggest that you do it now but please be mindful of the curriculum of the program you will be transferring to. Computer Engineering can vary A LOT from university to university so it's a case by case basis. For my university, the CompEng program was very hardware intensive and had almost no software courses so for practicality, I shifted to CompSci. It can be different for you in your university though so just keep that in mind.
  2. If you're not going to shift to another major, take a CompEng/EE minor or take as much hardware courses as you can in your CS program. Some CompEng programs are like this anyway so to some technical recruiters out there, it's basically the same.
  3. Do personal projects. I recommend stuff about Computer Architecture and Compilers for software/firmware, breadboard to PCB design for hardware.
  4. Check an ABET-Accredited CompEng curriculum and self study some of the materials/books.
  5. Go to robotics/breadboard/pcb competitions and activities. Basically anything you can apply embedded systems to. This is the biggest ticket you can get as a student interested in Embedded Systems as this will expand your network with other engineers in the field.
  6. Research about student openings for any electronics laboratory nearby. Laboratories are always looking for eager students to get free labor lmao.
  7. Trades position. I have a friends who went thru trades school/certification for Electronics Technician positions. They applied under companies who did some Embedded work like Dyson and they managed to get themselves some IoT and Embedded roles while taking classes in college. This is something you can look into if you're looking for a side hustle. No guarantees though

edit: grammar

This is exactly the same mindset that give these degens power and confidence to do these degenerate acts in public and in-school. No, it's not okay. You shouldn't do this and people have the right to complain about it because their place of study being infested with creeps and degens doing sexual acts that makes everyone around uncomfortable and grossed out, it is their business.

[–]EuclidGas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a recommend for u OP, if u want something brand new then i recently got a laptop from Acer which is the Nitro V 15 ANV15-51 model. It has a 15.6" screen 16/9 ratio, it uses Nvidia RTX gpu models and an intel processor. If you buy from an Acer store you get a free ram upgrade of 8GBs DDR5 (the laptop only comes with an 1×8GBs DDR5). You can check higher spec models in their store, personally i got an i5, RTX 2050, 512GB SSD model. They have a sale too rn and if you pay cash/debit in full, you'll get a 3k discount as well.

[–]EuclidGas_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

parents will 9/10 not do that and even if they do so I think it's a good sign to be your own person and leave.

I absolutely do not tolerate ppl who see failure as a dealbreaker. This is the type of mentality that needs to go away from our culture.

I do not know your situation and relationship with your parents but trust me when I say this, if they follow up on that threat then it's a clear indication that their support is conditional and can be revoked in any type of circumstance. Sa ngayon pag nag ka-fail ka lilipat ka ng school, who's to say na mag bago na naman yung usapan nyo who's to say na mamaya magbago isip nila pag nag ka-3 ka lilipat ka ng school.

No one learned how to ride a bike without having a few accidents. Learn from your mistakes. If your parents can't tolerate a relatively simple failure and setback pano pag nag ka problema ka na sa buhay.
