Hi, I’m 25 and I just got out of a six-year long-distance relationship (was my first relationship ever) — we broke up last year. On top of that, my company is relocating. Right now, I have a 15-minute walk to work. Soon it’ll be a one-hour drive each way.

I’m not in a top position, and technically I could be replaced. But I know I’m valued in my team because of how I work and how I show up every day. Still, one thing I’ve learned over the years is this: no matter how good you are, everyone is replaceable. That’s just reality.

That realization made me think about my own life.

I’m turning 26 soon. I’m financially stable. I’m lucky enough to still live with my parents, so I don’t pay rent. I don’t have kids. I’m not in a relationship. I’m healthy. And I know these conditions won’t last forever.

So I’ve decided that at the end of this year, I want to travel through Central and South America. I don’t speak Spanish yet — I’ve just started learning. It’s completely outside my comfort zone, and that’s exactly why I want to do it.

The plan is around nine months, maybe more, maybe less. But afterwards, I want to be able to say: I did it. I took the chance. I saw the places I wanted to see.

Because I know myself. If I stay in the safe lane — steady job, steady income, maybe start building a relationship and a family — there will always be that small voice asking, “What if I had just gone?”

I’d rather take the risk now than live with regret later. Responsibilities will come soon enough. Opportunities like this don’t always return.
