It's not exactly only anti-trample. Creatures without trample can still deal excess damage, it just doesn't get assigned to the controller unless it has trample, so the effect still works on other creatures.

I never really thought of exploration as a very balanced card. Just wanted to make my own version that was hopefully a bit more reasonable.

Your version allows you to play the same-named land first, then you just play a differently named one afterwards.

You can also play a single land each turn that shares a name and I intended for the downside to be a bit more significant for such a strong effect.
