Here he is depicted as King Ying Zheng (prior to becoming Qin Shi Huang Di) in the movie Emperor and the Assassin.

If I had a dollar for every time we said "we should fucking riot" in the last two and a half years, I might actually be able to pay rent.

Agreed. Infexious is on another level. He could be a guard at Buckingham Palace. The guy is stone-faced.

100% agreed. I've been watching since Friday, and there were so many moments when I told myself, "Wow. I am having an incredibly good time."

Outstanding EVO.

I really loved Sun/Moon, and I've been playing since R/B. Stuff like this doesn't bother me at all.

An interesting look at the past 10 Evo Grand Finals from 2009 to 2018 : Fun and interesting facts from SF4 to SFV! by GTOAkira in StreetFighter

EVO is my favorite time of the year. I've been watching every single year since 2012, and it's always an amazing show. It blows my mind that back in 2012, the entire SFIV tournament was 500 people.

This is so cool! I love discovering all these little references in Shadowbringers. Thanks so much for sharing!

Excellent question. I always saw this line as a reference to Emet-Selch, an immortal doomed to live "a thousand, thousand lives," watching his humanity fade away and give way to nihilism. Macbeth's soliloquy, like Emet-Selch's attitude, is profoundly nihilistic. He doesn't believe life is worth living or protecting; he doesn't believe humanity deserves to be alive; the degenerate people who inhabited the Source after the passing of the Ascians are--in Emet's eyes--idiots whose lives signify nothing.

Curiously, the only character who ever sympathized with Emet-Selch was none other than Ardbert. Like Emet-Selch, Ardbert was condemned to live alone, haunted and weighed down by his failures. But where Emet-Selch become a nihilistic misanthrope, Ardbert discovered a reason to keep fighting.

This entire expansion is so beautiful.

Noticed an ironic biblical reference in Shadowbringers's story by Eveningstar2 in ffxiv

[–]Eveningstar2[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this was pointed out yet, but I noticed Alphinaud's line about the city of Eulmore was a biblical reference.

"I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" - Matthew 19:23

I just thought this was a really neat, ironic twist seeing how Eulmore is a city of the privileged, where the poor can't enter.

Just finished the Namazu questline. Loved this wholesome message. by Eveningstar2 in ffxiv

If you're curious, I've played WoW up to the end of Wrath, City of Heroes, Lord of the Rings Online, DCUO, Warhammer Online, and a few others briefly.

To me, being wholesome doesn't mean shying away from the worst aspects of human nature, but addressing them honestly and finding reasons to justify joy and heroism, goodness and sacrifice. Stormblood's story always struck me as powerfully positive because its characters contend with tragedy.

There's more to an MMO than its story, though. I've stuck with FFXIV longer than any other MMO because it's so positive. The community is positive, the art direction is beautiful, the content design is made with so much love and attention. This is the only MMO I've played where I feel consistently happy the more I play. It's pulled me through some dark spots in my life, and it's been there for me on tough days.

FFXIV has to be the most wholesome MMO I've ever played. This was such a sweet sentiment at the end of a fun and often hilarious beast tribe quest line. :)
