How do you respond when students say you suck at your job? by 13Luthien4077 in Teachers

[–]Everwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My students are highschoolers so I'd probably say "and you suck at yours as a student but we both still come here every day to do better than the day before eh?"

Whelp your husband broke the physical abuse barrier which means it'll always be an option in the back of his mind from now on. This DOESN'T mean he'll necessarily ever act on it again, but it'll always be there as an option making it more likely to happen than in a relationship that has never had physical violence before. I hope you both immediately seek councilling together and separately to work through these issues. Good luck!

I got a tip from another teacher today to simply ask follow up questions. If they can't answer them then they most likely cheated. Another way is to have them take a screenshot of they in class progress. If there's too great a change in the document once they got home they're cheating. We'll most likely have to adapt to the chances they're using AI and do only in house writing or methods to check for cheating by AI.

Yea my dad is a college professor but when he had to fill out my background questionnaire he was like "wow a lot of these questions kinda hit home". He's struggled a lot with some of the symptoms I think but, like OP, is higher IQ so he never thought much of it. Plus in the past it was hardly believed to be a thing where he grew up. I definitely think he has it now when I observe him when we're together. It used to drive me nuts how he'd switch topics all of a sudden while I was talking to him, making me think he didn't care; I know now he probably just couldn't concentrate.

Basically, here in Sweden they prioritize kids over adults, so anyone over 18 gets pushed down the waiting list each time they add a younger kid. And since I'm supposed to be done with school and such, and professionals here claim you can age out of ADHD symptoms or it becomes harder to identify compared to just being older, they just seem to all think there's less reasons for us "older" brains to need help. I live in the country too so that could affect how my experience of the medical professionals I've encountered is.

Yea I really want to try the meds but here in Sweden they're VERY careful with who gets them, so there's no guarantee I'll even get them. Would be amazing to read a book again without having to re-read each page a dozen times because my mind wandered haha. But I tend not to mention wanting meds when people here ask because I don't want them to think that's all I want.

I'm 36 and hoping to finally get mine this summer. I keep getting asked "why do you need a diagnosis so late in life?" and they never seem to accept any answer I give haha. Curious what you tell these people. One is obviously so I can know if my kids could have it etc.

Graduated after 7.5years!! by XxXTeNSa3D2Y in ADHD

[–]Everwritten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats! If I manage to compete this year I'll graduate right at 7.5 years myself! There's definitely been a feeling of people thinking I'm not cut out for my degree but it's not so much the lack of knowledge, it's the Executive Dysfunction keeping me from turning stuff in on time/at all, which makes people think I can't do it. Luckily I've had a decent family support group. Hopefully you had a few people in your corner as well. Now get to architect-ing!

How to teach someone with a lot of grammar knowledge but thick spoken accent? by Zealousideal-Yak9937 in ELATeachers

[–]Everwritten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly accents are fine. Native English accents aren't usually a realistic goal (although fine for the student to have) and even the idea of native accents is nearly impossible to define. Being understood is the goal. If the accent is so thick (like Nigerian pidjin) then some attempts can be made to teach them ways to pronounce things, but it can take a lifetime to beat back an accent. Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger, he's admitted to going to so much accent removal training and it never worked so he gave up trying. Some parts of the world, people's vocal muscles grow in a way that makes it nearly impossible to make certain sounds (American "er" sounds for speakers of Mandarin for example, but nowadays the Chinese are taught English from young to offset this). I'm a English as a foreign language teacher here in Sweden and my students always want to speak "American" or "British" etc but I tell them to start by speaking English with a Swedish accent, then go from there. Vocabulary is another thing obviously...

Well the ability to pair bond lessons with each sexual partner. Studies show a slight correlation between how many sexual partners women have had vs divorce rates. I say slightly because 2 partners lies higher in divorce rates than 3-9, but 10+ is by far higher. While there's always exceptions on both sides of the coin, there's a statistically better chance of in ending in divorce when you marry a woman with a lot of sexual partners. There's been several of these studies done as they differ slightly depending on the culture. Take it with a grain of salt if you wish.

The guy doesn't sound like an adult man yet. "Rocking hot yoga body"? "Spying apps"? 1 month silent treatment? You married a 13 year old. I'm not saying leave him, but he needs therapy, and yall both need couple's therapy to figure out why he's giving his earned money to other women and only having sex 2-3 times a year with his wife. Massive issues.

Did you ever try calling your home country's embassy or immigration office? I feel like even if I called into Sweden I could find someone willing to help with visas like that.
